are the cylinders the same on a single six vs new single six. I have the older single six but I run up on a guy that has a magnum cylinder for a new single six.

I was thinking about buying it just making sure it will work.

From my understanding the cylinders need to be indexed to the pistol. So, again from my understanding, no. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly to give us a definitive answer.

After doing a little research on this gun it's a old 3 screw model and appears to be a 1956 model according to the serial number.

I see Ruger offers a safety recall on this model. I may have to check into this

The recall is that this design will fire if a loaded gun is dropped onto its hammer from a good height.   They retro fit it with a drop safety.   I think that if you do not have the original parts, this reduces the gun's value a bit should you care to sell it later.

I have the same one,  no clue which cylinders interchange though.

Ruger, and everyone else I've ever seen comment, says that a cylinder not fitted precisely to the individual revolver is quite a bad idea. Perhaps not as potentially catastrophically a bad idea with a .22 as with a larger caliber, I suppose.

As far as the transfer bar upgrade,  Ruger says they send you the original parts back in case you want to revert to them.

I bought a Single Six without the magnum cylinder. Ruger said that for a price, they would fit a magnum cylinder for me. I decided to just stick with the 22lr cylinder, this revolver had a 5 inch barrel and the 22 magnum didn't offer that much. I do have a Single Six with a 9.5 inch barrel. A 22 magnum works well with the longer barrel.  How does 2000fps sound? Smokin'!
