Smith & Wesson to End Most CA Sales Due to Microstamping Regulation

I can't really fathom how micro-stamping would even work. On a metal firing pin only fractions of a millimeter wide. There are only so many combinations of ways to make it where each one makes it's own unique primer strike. Even as time goes on and the gun needs a new pin, your order a duplicate that was made at time of munufature?

Well, I know back many years ago long before the technology we have today a guy was able to put the entire Lords Prayer on the point of a needle and when it was printed and looked at under a microscope and magnified 40,000 times you could actually read the entire Lords prayer on it so why with the new technology could they not micro stamp a firing pin many many times larger the the point of a needle?...................jmho

Dang! That's pretty neat. I have never researched it.

I heard about it back when I was much younger but cannot remember exactly when but I think it was while I was in high school that a teacher brought up how faster technology was moving. I bet that teacher never realized just how fast it was moving and if I recall it was in Science class.

That is why the man who owns the patent on this was on the board that said it was not feasible at this time. Firing pins wear and how many shots fired before the mark is unreadable and the gun still fires. Move on to next topic. What are they going to do, go to every gun owners home and inspect their pins every so many rounds. JTM We the People of the United States, in order to form a more Perfect Union......

Glock factory reps have confirmed that the new .45 ACP Glock 41 and .380 ACP Glock 42 are not on California’s “approved” guns list.
Glock won’t be microstamping (since the tecnology doesn’t exist in any viable form), so while Glock models that are currently on the approved list will continue to be sold, new models are a no-go.

How can Glocks stay on the list but they are threatening to kick the M&P's off? confused.gif

I have to disagree on this one, it's a really good move for gun rights people. If all companies complied you might not be allowed to sue because you coldn't show you'd been unduly harmed (liberal courts seldom view an increase in cost as an undue burden). This move by S & W and Ruger will allow Californians their day in court to get this overturned. It would be even better if all manufacturers joined in. One of the best proofs they're going to have that this law is about gun control and not crime prevention is that it only affects semi-auto handguns. It may go all the way to SCOTUS but I think they'll prevail in the end.

An interesting theory for sure, I had not thought of this as a civil rights issue, that'll give me something to chew over for awhile. Thanks for the well though out response.

Honestly, I've been pondering on gun ownership being a civil rights issue for some time.  There is no doubt gun owners are being oppressed, vicitimized and demonized on a daily basis by society in general.  Not only on an idividual level but by businesses and government as well.

Plus it hurts S&W to have close down a fairly large revenue source, Ca is a huge state and contrary to popular belief, guns are quite popular there.

Well hopefully those people will start voting. Otherwise they ain't getting new pistols and the old ones are gonna cost a new gun owner an arm and a leg. Otherwise, people in California deserve the government they elect.

I sincerely hope that S&W and Ruger doesn't do like Jennings did. All they did was change the name of their junk guns to Jimmeniz and still continue building the junk in Nevada and shipping them into California. If they are going to move lets hope they move to a state that really appreciates them coming there...............jmho

You, Sir, need to wash your mouth out with soap comparing S&W and Ruger to Jennings or any other of those ring of fire, Satuday night special outfits.

Fyi, it's just the semi-auto's they won't be sending to CA. They expect revolver sales to skyrocket.

Which if true makes even less sense. As I understand the bill, and I may not, but as I understand it models currently on CA roster are not effected by the new law. Which is also how Glock and the rest are going to stay put, and also why Ruger and S&W again really aren't up against the wall here. All it really means is don't send new or improved models to CA, at least that's the most common opinion I've come across.

We'll see how it pans out I guess, not sure at this point what's going to be accomplished though. Or avoided.

Listened to the entire story last night on NRA Radio, it isnt just the Microstamping. One thing I already knew, Canada already tried Microstamping. They threw that law out a couple of years ago, after finding it was expensive, caused gun manufacturers to no longer import and failed to solve or even help solve a single crime.

Yes they will continue selling Revolvers in California, the problem is, according to someone in California from the NRA, they will fight these laws tooth and nail, but even so, it requires going through the State Courts, then the Federal Courts and finally to the Supreme Court and could take four or five years, in the meantime, the Liberal Anti 2A people have a major win.

And the laws in California keep coming, they are at the point of putting out brushfires all over the place. There is another law being voted on, it will ban the use of hunting for "All animals". This guy said, Deer? OK, Bear? OK, but for California, goodbye Duck hunters.
