My new .308 <insert Curly Shuffle!>

Yep! I'm that excited! I know there are a lot of people who have guns way more expensive than any of mine, but dang it if I ain't as happy as can be with my new purchase. Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308 with 20" bull barrel.

I'm open to ideas, and advice, and I'm reading reviews, builds, and watching videos like crazy. A couple of things I know I will get are Harris bi-pod, scope base, and rings. I'll have to make do with the Leupold Rifleman 3-9x40 for now. As far as scope bases go, I was going to go with Leupold one piece base. I've heard great things about the Larue Tactical picatinny base for this rifle. It's only $75 through their website, so I'm still debating that one. I was checking out the Badger Ordnance rings, but only saw 30mm rings. 

From reading on here, I'm leaning towards a couple of ways to go with scope selection. Vortex and SWFA are what I hear mostly in areas I can afford. Who wouldn't want a Nightforce, but hell I've gotta figure out how to use one first  :rofl: .

 

<Pause for funny story...I'm on my laptop typing this up and my wife and daughter come home. Daughter says "What are you doing on the computer? Bet you're typing something about guns" Lol. So I get a sugar from her, and start to type as she walks in the other room. My cursor starts shooting across the screen. I regain control. Type again and there that sucker goes again! I wipe off the cursor pad, but to no avail. I look at my wife and say "What the heck!?" Then I hear uncontrollable laughter from my daughter around the doorway with the wireless mouse in her hand! LMAO She is a brat! :rofl:  :rofl:

 

Anyway, open for any of your tips or stories of what you've used. I cannot wait to shoot this thing!!

Well, until I get to Outpost or Bass Pro to pick up a Harris bipod, I'm throwing my UTG el cheapo on. At least I can stand it up and stare at it :)

Here is a Bell & Carson tactical stock, they feel really comfortable, the gun is a 700P with 24" Barrel.

Congrats!, I got the same receiver, bolt, and barrel.  'Bolt rifles' are a whole lot of fun, accessories and all.

 

 

You'll want a KRG bolt lift.   Night and Day performance for your bolt handle on without the pain of a high price $$$.

EGW makes a pretty nice one piece rail for cheaper then Larue.I have also been impressed with Burris XTR rings and they are not too pricey.  I would add the base, rings and optic and see what kind of accuracy you are getting before replacing the stock. I have a couple Harris bipods that work great but those Atlas ones are pretty sexy.

Both. It will definitely be used for deer, coyotes, etc. But I want to shoot some long range, when I get the chance.

Haven't seen the EGW but will check them out. And I've heard good things about the Burris XTR rings. I've spent a lot of money this week and can't just keep spending but I'd rather buy once, cry once. And I agree about shooting before making up my mind about replacing the stock. I've read where some people actually had pretty good accuracy with the Hogue. If it shoots good, the stock will wait till I'm bored, or the accuracy changes. Yeah, the Atlas bipods made me smile real big too, but I've always been happy with Harris quality, so that's probably the direction I'll go. Save that extra money for ammo.

I haven't had any issues with the Burris rings on my 308. They have held strong and have not marred my scope at all. I did lap them, but I do that will all rings, although it's probably not necessary. They are heavy duty and seem pretty bullet proof. Same thinf for the EGW base. EGW has a pretty good following with the Savage crowd and I'm sure their Remy bases are exactly the same as far as fit and finish/quality, etc. 

 

If you are planning to use it for deer and yotes, you would probably be better off with a variable optic. I have one 4-14 ( one fixed 10 (http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-10x42-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P499.aspx). The fixed 10 has noticeably better glass (clarity/brightness), but I wouldn't want to use it to hunt considering most of my shots are under 100 yards. I would think that rifleman would suit you just fine. 

 

You could also think about getting 30mm rings with 1inch inserts if you are planning to upgrade to a 30mm optic sometime in the future.

I can't say enough good about the Leupold Dual Dovetail mounts if you don't go for a rail mount. Those dudes are SOLID.

Well I went to Outpost Armory today and picked up this Talley rail and Leupold PRW medium rings. They have four bolts/screws per mount. I REALLY liked the Talley tactical rings ($149) but nicely enough they guy was not trying to shove the more expensive rings on me. He said for the scope I have now and my use of the gun, these Leupold were more than enough unless I just wanted the Talley's.

That definitely gives you more mounting/spacing options. That's the bad thing about the DDT mounts. The spacing is what it is. Is that stock the Hogue overmolded? It looks rubberized to me with the little dimples on the foregrip. If so I didn't realize they came factory.

That's my way of thinking too. And yes, that's factory. Even the AAC with threaded barrel has the Hogue overmold stock. Speaking of the AAC, they had one in stock at Outpost and SWEETNESS!!

Joel at Outpost Armory mounted my base, rings, and scope this morning. Can't wait to dial this puppy in!
