Dumb question for everyone. Yesterday I purchased a Smith and Wesson 40VE (Sig Series) from a friend of mine. This thing is only about a year old, came with everything from the case down to the instruction manual. My question is, included with this is a small little plastic orange thing-a-ma-jig that I have no idea what it is nor does my friend. Does anyone know what this might be? Looked on Smith and Wesson's website and cannot seem to find one on there either.

It's a breech plug that is used to indicate the chamber is empty. When it is displayed or stored, it is a quick visual indication that there's no round in the chamber. It is a safety mechanism so to speak. See if it fits the chamber. Common in autoloaders, especially from S&W

Sorry to say that is NOT a thing-a-ma-jing, the engineering term is a whatch-a-ma-call-it, very easy for a novice to get them confused. IF it is sort of "L" shaped it is placed in the shell ejection slot and holds the slide open a bit so a round can not be chambered...sort of a mechanical safety. That is of course if it is really whatch=a-ma-call-it, and not a fig-a-ma-jig or a kniphlin pin which is a whole different kind of aero space parts.

nah, didn't you know flux capacitors are complicated silver muffler looking things with wires and tubes coming out of them? hardly an orange piece of plastic. it's gotta be a power cell for a phase plasma gun in the 40 watt range.
