Sorry but McCain has never passed on a chance to vote for socialist legislation. If he is not a socialist then nobody is.

Yes, Obama is left of MCain. OK, OK, Obama is left of Stalin, Marx and Moa.

It's a shame that the moderates that founded this country are now considered right wing extremist.

Sorry, but I was being sarcastic. See the smiley rolling his eyes?

Nice try, though.

Does anyone else wonder if the $700 billion mortgage bail out is a viable fix, or just a band-aid to the 10's of trillions of $ that makes up the total U.S. mortgage debt as a whole.

1st we had the stimulus package with a possible 2nd one (as I understand it) still in the works. Now we have this $700 billion dollar blunder. One can only hope that this bleeding sore that we call a government, is almost patched up.

....I also wonder if a person can find out whether or not the government will soon own their mortgage loan. I sure hope they never take my financial institution of choice over. But I really can't see that happening with who currently owns my estate given the latest news concerning them.

I'll bet money that this is not going to work. The fed has all ready given wall street over 400 billion and they say the banks aren't making loans. another 700 billion is not going to work. Paulson is going to have the power to put the value on these pieces of paper, and he will more than likely mark them at face value. I see these a@#holes asking for a hell of a lot more. Couple that with the fact that a lot of our tax dollars will be going to foreign banks. I'll also bet that the CEO'S and big shots don't get much of a pay cut. It pisses me off that something as important as this is done behind closed doors, loaded with pork and then we the people are supposed to pay for it. This Bull**** deal was sold using the same fear tactics that bought us the patriot Act.

Welcome to the united Socialist Republic of America

JD,

That's a good observation. I've heard it referred to as the "Economic Patriot Act". Instead of a power grab, this time they were after money.

Privatize the profits and socialize the losses.

Not sure what you mean by that. Our founding fathers were Democratic Republicans, not just Republicans. If anything McCain is more like them then anyone else

My point being that individual rights and limited government was considered the moderate position for at least the first 150 years of this country. In the past 70 years the "center" has moved so far to the left that socialist GOP'ers are considered right wing. Which in the scheme of things makes it hard for people to truly understand what individual rights and very limited government really mean.

Just image, no IRS, EPA, no Department of Education, etc...

We are a socialist nation we have not had a truly capitalist system since the early 1800's. It was in the 1820's when the first communist community was established in New Harmony Ohio with the backing of many of the politicians in Washington. We have been on the "Road to Serfdom" every since.

Just what a country needs! No schools, and no fed programs funding public parks, hospitals, and defense! It would be a great world in all that smog, and dirty water!

And these agencies have made stuff so much better.

The EPA banned DDT even though there was no scientific reason to just a book of fiction written by a hippy.

Since the Department of Education was created our education system has been spiraling into the crappier. Before the D of E kids learned about history, math, English; now they learn that Jane Doe has two mommies and big government is good because you can't just take care of yourself and how to get on welfare the easiest way. Schools used to be run by locals for the community now there is so much Federal regs and grants with strings attached the locals have not real control.

Public parks were created through the theft of privately held lands in several cases. In most cases the land was purchased but the owner was not given a choice as to whether to sell or not.

Before the "Defense Department" we had a War Department. It is interesting that the War department was involved in fewer conflicts in 150 years than the Defense department in 70.

Most of the good hospitals are privately owner. If you want substandard care go to a public one, see the VA hospitals level of "care."

Name one thing that government does better than private people or industry besides War.

I didn't say it was perfect, but it works.

And until you get off your ass to build schools, pave roads, keep our drinking water clean, and become a first responder,I really dont need to hear about how bad it is.

We the residents of Cowan TN built our own school. The County took it over and ran it into the ground. It is just now starting to recover.

The well water on my in-laws place is much cleaner than any city water for at least 100 miles.

Roads used to be privately owned and were kept up better but the government said we can do it better and cheaper. And now it cost more and tears up faster.

Most of the First Responders I know are volunteers who paid out of their own pocket for their training, and they do a great job.

+1 fury.

I think this bail out is GW's last f**k you to all of us. I'm sure Gw, Paulson and a bunch of politicians will profit from this crap. Since Americans are to stupid to vote all these folks out of office, I think a revolution is the only solution. But here in lies the problem the dummies that will not vote these folks out also do not have the balls to take up arms against a government that is more repressive than the ones the colonials went against.

Strickj, I am not saying thing were perfect before government started seizing control, but at least you knew where you stood. Now, thanks to massive regulations you can't take a leak in the woods without violating Federal Law.

Oh, just so you EPA watchdogs know... :D I have never ever taken a leak in the woods. Honest?!?!?! :)

That might work for a small town.I hear Mayberry was a nice place also!

But other places are not willing to do anything they dont have to.Without first responders getting a paycheck each week I would be still laying on the side of the road dead.

City life does not permit wells for water.Plus your answer to that still does not provide a non-government solution to keeping our rivers clean.Without the EPA we wouldn't have any fish for instance.

Private schools are better, but its not free. You still have to pay for it,and it does cost more.

Like I said, its not perfect, but it works for the masses.

No one likes paying taxes. However without taxes we would be a piss poor country still living in the 1800's

Dont like it then run for office and change it

I agree there has to be some government. I just don't think that government is the solution to all our problems. GWB, McCain, Obama, Biden, Gore, Kerry, etc... all seem to think some HS dropout bureaucrat in Washington knows how to run my life better than I do. I just disagree them.

In full disclosure, I grew up in Chattanooga. Strickj, my aunt collects your property taxes, she has for forty years. I graduated from high school there and remember when Hamilton Place was a swamp. (I miss that swamp...)

I used to think small town life was not for me.

Then I moved to Farmington, MI. The mall was three miles away and it took 30 minutes to get there. Work was 20 miles away and it took 1 hour and half to get there.

Now I live in Cowan over an Italian restaurant. Barney Fife stops in to get free pizza. I live 20 miles from my office and it take 30 minutes to get there. I don't know how far the closest mall is. It is much more peaceful over here in the middle of nowhere. Oh and Hero Gear is just down the road.

I know it sounds like paradise but then I am married so I have to take the good with the bad. :D

if this was communism these CEO`s wouldn`t be arguing about their "golden parashutes", they would be more concerned about the firing squad doing a good job and shooting them quick and fast. Democrats or republicans nor even a goverment is running this country, corporations are...almost every senator and congressman is bought by the corporations, and to them really doesn`t matter how you call it what they do, capitalism or socialism, as long as they make money....

I think these buyouts really suck. US taxpayers should have an opportunity to vote on this decision. I know the consequences to not bailing out the "bank" companies, but why bailout the insurance companies also? What is the economy going to get out of an auto/home insurance company (AIG)??

And if these bailouts are a so called "loan", where is a failing US economy getting the funding? Is the treasury department going to release more money, to make the dollar cheaper, or are we going to borrow again, like they did with the stimulus checks?

As a side note the congress also quietly voted 25 billion to the big three auto companies last week. The big bail out kept this one nicely off the radar. I guess they are going to get rid of the democratic and republican party and just call it what it is the bought and paid for socialist party for the fat cats.
