It's around all over the place, but the price is still high because dummies keep paying for it... If they would stop buying it, the price will drop just like the other ammo is doing.

Mini mags are $20/100 on gunbroker...

Holy moley! I haven't been paying much attention to gunbroker pricing in the last few months, WTF?

A few things I've learned/experienced.

It's been almost a year since I've bought ammo at Walmart. I still shop there for socks and milk though, and always walk by the ammo cabinet just by habit I guess.

It's been over a year since I've bought ammo at a gun show. I haven't even been to one. There's too many people vying for too few deals to really be worth it. Better off with the TGO classifieds IMO.

I've bought more ammo online in the last year than I ever have in all other years combined. Not hard as I hadn't bought much online in the past. Shipping rates keep this from being an effective option most of the time for me.

I've pretty much come back full circle to buying more from the LGS. In the past it has been nice saving a few bucks at a gun show, or even saving a few plus having the sock and milk convenience of Walmart. These days are different though. These days I just want to buy a little ammo, throw a box or two in the range bag, throw a box or two back for the "hoard". For the last 6-7 months it has been tough to beat the LGSs around Nashville if you just get visions of $20.00 value packs out of your mind.

It's true that most of my rimfire comes in little 50 round boxes and does average out $30.-$50. Per 500 rounds, BUT I have had consistent any luck getting between 150-500 rounds almost every time I look.

I don't mind paying the extra under the circumstance. The money is going to a licensed entity legally engaged in the business and the cost is legit, smaller packages cost more since you don't get that bulk discount. The "benefit" I've noticed is that I usually end up with some kind of "special" ammo, subsonic or super duper velocity stuff mostly.

With that in mind, it IS possible to still be shooting AND throwing ammo back these days. Without supporting any gougers.

A very long winded way of saying that paying "too much" doesnt always make one a dummy. IMO.
