As far as the whole Lonesome Dove thing goes, the movies just can't compete with the books. If you've seen them but not read them you're missing out.

Also Lee VanCleef is THE quintessential western actor IMO. Clint is good, John Wayne did a great job, but Lee was best.

I don't know that I'd go with "best" there ol' buddy. But definitely in the top echelon. His work with Eastwood in TG,TB, and TU, is awesome. And his spaghetti westerns are some of the best to come out of Italy.

They changed up the actors at some point, can't recall when, but they lost me. Also, I don't recall which one, but it had Duvall in it, but it was SO slow and boring that even having him on screen couldn't make up for the slow plot.

Best Western actor... toss up between Clint Eastwood and John Wayne.

I LOVE westerns, but for some reason, I'm not much of a John Wayne fan. I'm with you about Clint Eastwood, though. Even his spaghetti westerns were good.
