Going to the gun show tomorrow and looking at picking up a new side arm. Hopefully under $450. What are some pistols that you guys recommend? I know glocks are good, and I wouldnt mind a taurus model 92. May even go after a ppk, but I need to recommendations for a 9mm.

I'm a fan of the old school smith and Wesson 6946 & 5946. They can be had for under 450. Sent barefoot from the hills of Tennessee

Is that supposed to be based off a 1911?

You should be able to get a brand-new Ruger SR9, 40 or 45 OTD for around $450.  That's Knoxville gun show pricing.  CZ's are incredible as well but I just don't see them much at shows, or stores for that matter.

I have absolutely no experience with the Rugers but I like the way they feel and they are fairly well regarded.

Original XD service or sub compact are around that for the stripped down XD gear packages where you just get the two mags.

659 S&W built like a tank!
I've been lusting for one for a while now. Managed to get my paws on a 4006 but the 9 has been elusive.
I'm with unclejak all the way on that one. Older generation Smiths.

A friend of mine wants me to get a P22X something, and I dont know. I want to stick to the 9mm caliber or else I will just end up buying another 1911. Kind of miss my star 1911 chambered in 9 largo.

P226, P228, and P229 can all be had in 9mm but NOT for that price.

Not gonna find a P226 for 450 unless its stolen, IMO

I know that, I can can spend more, but I made a mental note to not go over $450. I just cant find what I want in a hand gun, but for some reason, deciding on a rifle is far easier.

P226 is probably going to run into $500-$600+.

Check out the Ruger SR9 and SR9c. Both great options that you should find around your budget.

Also check out the P95 as well. Not as nice IMO but a great utilitarian 9mm.

If you don't mind the size, you could find a used Beretta 92 for around that.  Big honkin' pistol for a 8mm, but they will run flawless.

wouldnt a taurus model 92 be the same thing and cheaper? Im leaning more towards that or a ppk.

And its nice to use the PC at work, since  no one else is here. I can actually see what all the pistols you guys are recommending.

Check the classifieds here for the SR9c that was listed. A touch high for used at 440, but with the ammo and a pocket holster...it's in your range.

Used glock or the Beretta nano is pretty sweet for that price range.

Jason

Unless you are looking for a pocket gun, the Nano isn't going to be your best choice. I say this since you've mentioned Glocks, Taurus, and Beretta full size models. I gather you are in the market for sometning a little bigger...more range and house gun than small cc guns.

2nd and 3rd generation Smiths are good 9mm pistols and we are beginning to see more of them show up on the market these days since the poly guns are so in demand.
