Recommend a good belt

I'm looking for a good belt. It wouldn't necessarily be a gun belt, but just a good everyday belt. I don't want it to be so stiff that it's uncomfortable around my waist.

 

I'd prefer it to be between 1 1/2 and 1 3/4 inches wide.

 

I have a Gould and Goodrich belt that I seldom wear because it is uncomfortably stiff. I have a 31 inch waist, so maybe that's a contributing factor.

 

My favorite belt is a Barsony that's 1 5/8 inches wide. It seems to have a good balance between stiffness and suppleness. On the downside, it's wearing out pretty quickly.

 

Oh, this is probably not a factor in the choice, but I always drill additional holes in my belt because I find the standard distance between holes leaves the belt either too loose or too tight. I hate both fits, so I just drill a hole where I want it to be.

 

So, what are your suggestions?

This is where I got mine, three years old on my fat butt and it's STILL going strong. It's about just shy of being 1/4", if I did my math right it would be around .18 or .19 inches thick. 1 3/4" width and has belt holes all the way around. They're a bit expensive because they're all custom made to order but judging from the quality, it's something that will last 10 years easily.

I have a DB Bullard belt. Got it on quick ship. I is a great sturdy belt that isn't stiff. It is flexible enough to be comfortable but strong enough to hold guns and my pants up (big guy). I would recommend one in a heartbeat.

If I can help you, I am here in Nashville.  I make mostly 1.5 inches as they seem to be most preferable unless you wear a lot of dress pants then I would go with 1.25.  Anything larger wont fit most blue jeans.  A well made gun belt will last many years and conform to your body.

Like mmirob stated, 1.5 is the target size for jeans, and 1 1/4 for dress pants.

Wilderness.  I have a couple, they're absolutely awesome belts.  Infinitely adjustable, tough as nails,  stiff enough to carry plenty of gear but still comfy.

 

And ideal for beating the bejeezus out of somebody causing trouble on a commercial flight.   :up:

All the belts recommended are exceptional belts. However, based on what you said in your OP, I think you'd find most of them too stiff, because they are gun belts. I was of the impression that you aren't looking for a stiff gun belt.

 

Assuming the Barsony that you like is the thickness and price range you were looking for, I'd recommend checking out Hank's. They have some great Amish belts for reasonable prices.

 

The problem with thinner, less stiff belts is that they do wear out faster, though.

Beltman without the extra internal stiffener option serves well for everything. I wear with from jeans and shorts to dress pants (at least all the ones I wear will take 1.5" width), while supporting full size gun OWB or IWB, or one in pocket, or both. Or fine with no gun at all.

SOE Tactical. You can unbuckle it and pee so much faster than any other belt I've had. And you only have to adjust it once a day.

I have a Beltman that’s probably 5 years old and still in great shape. I am getting ready to order another because I also want black.

I’ve tossed around the idea of trying D.M. Bullard because I have one their holsters and it is very impressive. I don’t know though if their belts are as good as the Beltman.

Pricey, but bad ass and rugged. I've got one for casual and one that I use for a gun belt. Beats the 511 stuff hands down. Plus they size em right for some of us bigger members..

I'll admit the belt was a bit stiff at first but I figured out that since the belt is so stiff, it doesn't need to be so tight.  If you're the type that keeps your belt "squeeze your guts out" tight, then a stiff gun belt will definitely be uncomfortable.  Loosen it a notch or two and you might be happier.

I went with a cheapo from amazon. I was always in between on the loops.

Spec-Ops Brand Better BDU Belt, $20. I carry a Glock 23 OWB without an issue.

I have a G&G, it's black with simple bucket for dressier / suit wear.

 

If I recall it took at least  30 days of daily use for it to start breaking in, now it is "formed" to my radius...

5.11 makes a good dress gun belt in black and/or brown.  it has a plastic incert that does the job that other gun belts don't have.  i have been wearing them for over five years on the job.  i have tried other gun belts and they are priced twice the price over the 5.11 dress belt.  the other belt to me don't do as well.  looks good in your suite at court, looks good in dockers/blue jeans.  not thick like most gun belt.

I would NOT recommend these particular 5.11 belts for longevity of appearance but they do carry well for the price.

i saw some of the newer ones and they don't look as good as the ones that i got years ago.  when you make things overseas you get a cheaper product.
