Shocking!

If you ever think the Internet doesn't have much information on you, think again. I've never been on Face Book, twatter or the other social media sites and I'm careful about personal and family matters, maybe not?

Anywho... I needed to get the phone number of a buddy I lost that now lives in Selmer, TN. Easy enough, "Internet White Pages", type the name, city and state, hit the find button, BANG, there it is.

I notice a little tidbit about finding other people he may know, his neighbors, a map of where he lives, etc. So, I go to that site and type in my name and get a shock. Of course it's a pay to use site for something like $29.95 per use but the free information floored me.

It had my ex-wife listed there under her last husband's name. We divorced in 1976 and I never even met or talked to her late deceased ex-spouse. He late husbands name, Some old friends and neighbors I haven't seen in decades.

It's scary to think of the information anyone can get on someone for a few bucks.

Now, if I can get that kind of information as a private citizen on someone with a few key strokes and a couple of bucks. Think of the information a cop following behind you and calling you in can get, someone who maybe wants to intentionally make your life miserable, someone who wants to sell you something... The possibilities are endless.

Combined with the Internet and company's tracking your spending habits, websites you visit, forum posts, searches you make, etc., Big Brother and his sisters and 2nd cousins twice removed have a wealth of what you thought was private information.

Guess I've been a little naïve and eyes wide shut. This sure was a wake up call.

Yup it's a bit unnerving just how much information is available out there for a few bucks. Of course if you're more Internet savy than the average joe, I'd bet all that and more can be found 100% for free.

Just the world we live in I guess.

Wonder how many $35 searches are people checking up on themselves?

I've encountered the $35 offer for info a few times searching for somebody, but I never wanted to know that bad.
