Gov. surplus brass bidders gone nuts?

Recommended Posts

There are several lots of fired brass being offered on Government Liquidation presently. Its all at Ft. Campbell. Bidding closes today and I've been watching it. WOW! Some of It's at $14,000 for around 2,800 lbs. That comes out to around $70 or so per 1000. I can't believe it's going so high. Widners and others retail it for $80 pre paid.

What gives with this?

Consider:

-The ammunition panic continues, strong at that

-Prices have gone higher and stayed there over the last year

-People aren't shooting as much (IMHO), so there's less brass being generated at ranges

-SUPPLY and DEMAND

You can't make ammo to sell without brass, bullets, primer, and powder. And on that note, you don't see Uncle Sam selling off any of the other three in large quantity.

The thing is, there are multiple lots and every one of them is a crazy price. Used to, say a year or so ago, you could pick up a lot for $2.50 a pound or there abouts. Still high at the time, but it made a pretty decent deal for personal or resale.

This is all 5.56, there was one lot of 7.62. Glad I don't need any. jeez
