things take people funny sometimes.  I would be encouraged by all the freedom fighters who won out using my design, in his place, but I am a rather happy type person.  IIRC some of the folks (including Einstein) were a bit dismayed by their bomb -- even though they effectively ended the war, saving tons of deaths and suffering and destruction.

Einstein had essentially nothing to do with the development of the atomic bomb.  He did send a letter to FDR advocating the research and construction, at the behest of scientists who had earlier made him aware of the possibility and knowing his status would immediately lead credence to their advocacy.  When these scientists first informed Einstein that such a weapon was even possible, his first statement was " I never thought of that".  However, he was astute enough to realize that if the Germans were able to build a bomb, it would mean destruction of the Allied forces, thus his agreement to notify FDR despite his longtime belief in pacifism.

I can see why he would feel that way, but if it were never for guns, people would use something else... The individual who chose to go against gods will and just kill to kill are held liable and will be judged... Not him. He is not responsible for other peoples thoughts and judgement... Interesting read.

Interesting read, Kalashnikov felt regret over designing his rifle.

If you like that kind of stuff read about the Winchester House in CA or about how Dr. Richard J. Gatling thought that by inventing the Gatling gun people would see how futile war is.

Little did he know.....
