Walking pneumonia is no joke.

Just a little something I've learned over the past week.  I thought it was just a bout of the flu.  Then I pretty much checked off every single symptom of walking pneumonia including anemia, violent convulsive coughing, persistent weakness, etc.

Today's day 7.  I am slowly starting to get better but I'm still very much wiped out and restricted to the couch.   This likely started as the flu, so you all need to be careful.  I can't imagine a child or an older person having this; it likely would kill them.

I know an EMT down in FL that just passed away from pneumonia caused by the flu. His wife is in the hospital under medically induced coma so they can try and treat her's. She doesn't even know about her husband passing. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk

I just found out last Sunday that a guy who I used to work with died from complications from the flu.  He was 40 years old.  He did have diabetes which I think can make it worse, but still, it's just crazy.  It seems worse this year than any I can remember for deaths related to the flu.

Our daughter has the stuff, doc said it was walking pneumonia.

Confined to bed, and no work.

Based on the local news and a coworker who's wife works at Vandy, this year is particularly bad. Hope I don't regret not getting the flu shot. Get well soon, David.

Do it. It takes two weeks to kick in.

Picked it up as a teenager after a broken arm.

I was sick for a month. Pretty much lived on the couch for the first week and a half. Glad you're on the mend; walking pneumonia... well, it sucks.

I had Pneumonia and not of the walking variety around 7 years ago. I ran a 103 temp for 2.5 hours then it broke and was over.

Now I get a flu shot every year. They also have a P shot, too.

I started feeling under the weather this past Wednesday, went to work on Thursday and went home early.

Went to the Doc's this morning and tested positive for flu type A(?). Bed rest until the 17th and if I get a shortness of

breath, go back in or head over to the E-Room if it's after hours. They don't have to tell me twice, been there, done that.

One a good note, for a 61 yo old phart goin on 62 my BP was 128/82. Not bad for sitting on butt all day at work and

being sick.

My wife went to the doctor Friday for the second time in two weeks. After some x rays it was confirmed that she has pneumonia. They gave her a second shot and sent her back home with some prednizone and antibotics. Luckily the gave her a refill because me and my daughter have something :shrug:  as well.

Hope you get better soon. Sick sucks.

My wife and daughter had their ful shots this year but I didn't.

Had 2 bouts of WP in 2009/10 while under going chemo and radiation. I tell you from experience...do what you are told and don't overdo anything. Just recover...that's all you really have to do. And yes, this stuff can cause great problems for you.

I had walking pneumonia between Christmas and New Years a few years ago. It was pretty miserable. Had to sleep sitting up and generally didn't sleep for more than 3-4 hrs at a shot for a good 10 days. Takes a long time to get better when you can't rest. Hope you get past it soon.

Stuff I've read about the flu that's going around is its H1N1. Don't know if it was included in this year's vaccine.

Yeah, I did the whole "sleeping sitting up" thing for the majority of this last week.  It was some of the worst sleep I've ever had and I'm very thankful to be able to sleep in bed again.

Thanks for the well wishes, folks.  I'm not going to lie... Friday night I was worried if I would still be here today.  We were ready for the trip to the ER.

 I know how you feel.  Both lungs in 2009, right lung again in 2011.  Take care of yourself, I learned the hard way how insidious this disease really is.

I had something late last year. Really bad for 4 days but hung on for an additional 21 days. Yes I had a flu shot but don't know if it helped or not.

Take care and get well soon.

I went back to work this past week but my voice is still not 100% and only within the past 3 days have I felt back to normal otherwise (energy level, stamina, etc.)

I still have a nice lingering cough and my voice sounds like I've been a chain smoker for the past 60 years despite being 18 years less that and not a smoker.

Yeah, it is. From CDC:

"The 2013-2014 trivalent influenza vaccine is made from the following three viruses:

  • an A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus;
  • an A(H3N2) virus antigenically like the cell-propagated prototype virus A/Victoria/361/2011;
  • a B/Massachusetts/2/2012-like virus.

It is recommended that the quadrivalent vaccine containing two influenza B viruses include the above three viruses and a B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus."

Don't even know if I got the tri or the quad, though.
