Glock 24, Anyone want to comment?

Going thru the safe tonight looking for my G34 that I traded for last year.

 

Guess what, I was wrong. It's a G24. 6" competition model. 

 

Anyone have thoughts, comments, experience with them?

I had a G24 a few years ago, honestly just the same as any other Glock. I actually was wanting to use it to take a deer or two, I found out it was not anymore accurate than even my baby Glocks. If you read into published velocities some ammo out that 6" barrel is as great as some 10mm out of a G29. Is yours a Gen 2? I wonder if you have my old one, I traded it away with one 10rd magazine and a newer style box.

Oh, and it may be the rarest of the models as far as the numbers go.

From what I understand that is a very rare gun. If you give me the serial number prefix I can tell you when it was made.

After discontinuing the ported Gen1 17L models, Glock didn't offer any ported models again until 1994. The new-for-1994 G24C long-slide was the same size as the 17L, but a little heavier (as were all .40 caliber versions of 9mm Glocks). It had a different arrangement and shape of ports on the barrel, but the ports were still centered on the barrel and still vented upward through the cutout in the top of the slide. The ports were also different sizes, with the first one (closest to the breech) being the smallest, the second being slightly larger, and the last two being the largest and equal in size.

It falls just behind the range above but I found an article saying they quit making them int he late 90's so I have no idea.

 

 The longer slide is what made the Glock 24 instantly recognizable. Regardless, the system fell out of production in the late 1990s, available only through special order at the time

I'm really torn here. But I'm gonna wait and see what I can find out about it.

 

My brother-in-law is going to the Shot Show and is going to try and find a Glock contact to ask about it.

 Yes, I have the G34 as well. Had it for about 3 years I think. I've only taken it out once. :ugh:  Yes, I know that's stupid, but I do have several good excuses. :rofl:

They still make them, even though they are manufactured in limited amounts.

It's just a standard Glock, not even that rare.  Same as a 17L but in .40.  They've gone by the wayside because the 34/35 meet the requirements for competition and the 17L/24 don't.

 

Still a good gun and they are still being manufactured.

I have to say that in spite of the 6" barrel, this holds very easily. It balances well, and I really like the long sight radius.

Real easy to sell if you want to. Post it up either here or on BEnos.com. Not real sure what they sell for but some people like them for Limited USPSA.

Ok, I know I'm gonna come out sounding really stupid here. But I traded for this quite a while back, put it in the safe, and just plain forgot about it. I was pretty sick at the time. Long unimportant story, so I just put it away, thinking I'd get to it later. But I didn't.

 

All I remembered was it was a 40, so I'm thinking it's a 35.

 

Got my mind on a trade and that's what I offered it as. When it came to light that it was a 24, both of us slowed down a bit.

 

Anyway, not in a great hurry to sell or trade. Maybe it's not worth much except for competition, but I like it just for what it is...a 40 that holds well for me, shoots well, and I can see the sight easily. 

 

I wasn't fishing to sell, just wanted to see if others had more knowledge than I had on it.

I also have a 24 Gen 3 , that I bought last year (new) and have not shot it yet . At the time I bought it you couldn't find ammo and I didn't have any 40 ammo. I sort of lost interest in shooting with all the availability and prices of ammo . They seem front heavy until you load the magazine and then they feel pretty good . Factory adjustable sights and the longer sight radius might help if I ever shoot it.

 

I am thinking I read that it is too big for some of the competitions and something changed a few years after it was introduced and the 34/35 came out to fit in the box and the 24 will not. My memory is not very good and I know nothing about competition shooting , so I may be totally wrong.

Dug my book up and the 24 came out in January 1994 and and is a 40 version of the 17L 9mm . it also states

 

" that is was one year after IPSC were embarking on a 6 year tear of experimentig with high capacity pistols in 38 super with red dot sights and loud, obnoxious compensators on them. If you were not shooting a pistol with 25 round ( later 28 round as the details got worked out ) magazine with a dot and a comp that blasted paint off all the props , you were not competative  ".

 

 It goes on to say that the introduction of Limited 10 in the late 90's would have given it a chance ( talking mainly about the fixed sights and 40 caliber ) but it would NOT fit in the box so they shortened it and made the 34/35 pistols.

 

They are still being produced but in limited numbers .

There is probably a USPSA Limited Division shooter who would like to get his hands on that gun.  The "box" doesn't apply to Limited.  Most Glock shooters seeking to enter Limited choose a 35, but some search for the not-so-common 24.  I passed on a chance to buy a lightly used one for $600 three or four years ago.  I wanted my Limited gun to be almost identical to my Production/SSP gun (a 34), so I went with a 35.
