Cheap brass .223

Anywhere where I can find cheap .223 in bulk? At the moment the best place so far is everything weapons in cool springs since they are about $100 cheaper then the franklin gun shop. I looked on gun broker as well, but the best deal was 1000 rounds of reloaded 5.56 for about $400 but its reloaded.

I am tempted to go buy some of the steel case tula or what ever it is called ammo from walmart, but I wont be able to shoot it at the armory. And its too cold to go enjoy the Charley Haffner memorial range  :-\

Is Walmart not still carrying the 1000 round Federal cases for $450ish anymore? I've seen a lot of 420 round ammo cans at Academy lately too.

Someone posted a link to some place that had factory new 5.56 ammo for $0.38 (I think) per round. Sealed primer and bullet (for whatever that's worth) and it was brass case ammo. I think it was in the "AR build deals" thread and should be on the last page or two of it. I'll see if I can find it and post the link here. There may be better deals but I load my own so I don't ever shop for ammo.

I was wrong, it was .35 cents per round but here's the link to the ammo TDR posted,

And here's the link to the TGO thread link (it's like the 3rd or 4th post from the bottom),

EDIT: it's also 62gr SS109 if that matters to you. it's usually a bit higher than 55gr fmj

I compare the prices here: http://gun-deals.com/list/ammo/.223%252F5.56

Prvi Partizan 55gr brass for about $395/1,000 shipped:

http://www.sgammo.com/product/prvi-partizan/1000-rd-case-556-mm-m193-55-grain-fmj-prvi-partizan-ammo-pp52

Wolf 55gr brass cased for about $366/1,000 shipped:

http://www.ammunitionstore.com/products/223-ammo-55gr-fmj-wolf-gold-brass-case-boxer-primed-1000-round-case.html

I've bought from both of these suppliers in the past (not recently though) without problems.

That wolf ammo.... Holy how, even with shipping is worth it. Would it be suspicious if I bought three 1000 round cans?

Be careful with the Wolf ammo. I had 1000 rounds of it. It was inconsistent. The first 500 shot accurately with no issues. The second 500 was very disappointing. 60% tumbled and keyholed. Some barely functioned the rifle like it was a reduced powder load. Some of it smelled like burning hair when fired. Got rid of it. Now I am cautious and leery of Wolfe ammo.

What the hell, you're probably already on a list.  Go for it.

Thats so true.

That great deal now looks like not such a great deal after all.

I shot a fair bit of Wolf through handguns back before I got into reloading and I don't ever remember having a single isssue out of the ammo. I did have a mag that you could only get about 4 steel case rounds in before it would lock up unless it was drenched in lube but I guess that wasn't the ammo's fault per say. Wolf makes some of the very best .22lr ammo you can get so if the "gold" series of 5.56 is anywhere near as good as the .22lr then i'd say jump on it.

Was that brass cased (not made in Russia) or steel cased (made in Russia) Wolf ammo?

I don't have a dog in this fight, but here's a video review from MAC of the brass cased Wolf Gold .223 ammo:

brass cased maybe it was a crap batch but I don't trust it

Thanks for that info.  I can understand why you don't trust.  No ammo should do that.
