Makarovs

I know they are good pistols, but anyone know anything about the Hungarian FEG's? As far as makarov;s go, they look pretty sweet. If the FEG are just like the russian ones, I may look at picking up two of them. Just asking for feed back from someone who might own one or a few.

Are you referring to the PA-63?  Those aren't Makarovs, but they do come in 9x18 Makarov caliber.  ;)

They're fine guns but have a nasty bite to them.  I used to have one.  The frame is aluminum so they are fairly light, but that in combination with the recoil and how it sits in the hand can rapidly cause great discomfort.  At least it did for me, the tang really dug into my hand.

So, they arent makarov's, just chambered in 9mm makarov. Why do people refer them as makarov's then?

I don't know.  Makes about as much sense as calling a Glock 19 a Luger.

They are Makarovs but not... just like how an AK variant is but isn't an AKM. I gave my dad one a few years ago and it is stupid accurate for being a small weapon such as that. As Garufa said, they have some hella recoil.

Also, they have pretty F'ing strong recoil springs, just a heads up. I bought it with the intention of giving it to my mother for a carry pistol but she couldn't chamber a round to save her life with that thing, so instead my Dad "inherited" it.

The triggers suck and the recoil is nasty.  Pony up the extra coin for a Russian or Bulgarian Makarov

A bit late but ...

there is nothing wrong with the feg.  The trigger is heavy, and the slide is sharp, the grip is small (bad combination, meaty hands get "bitten" and theres not a lot to do about it, if you have big hands, its not a good gun for you).  But they are reliable, solid, and inexpensive pistols.  Rough, utilitarian military/police grade stuff.   Feg makes a number of pistols along these lines, and there is indeed a 380 version as well as a browning clone and some other oddities.  AFAIK all are similar in the durable / reliable / inexpensive but rough category.

Its called a makarov because everything that shoots 9x18 is called a makarov just like every type of fizzy is called a coke.  Its confusing, moreso because a lot of these guns look similar in size and shape "at a glance".

The 2 9x18 pistols I like best are the real makarov (I have an east german for 20 years and many thousands of rounds later it is still super accurate and perfectly reliable and only wear is the finish from carrying it) and the cz 82 which is mutant offspring of my beloved makarov and a cz75.  The feg holds a solid third place, or at worst, ties for third.

The true makarov is an engineering marvel and highly recommended.  Decades later and thousands of dollars spent, it remains one of the best purchases I have made.  Ammo is no worse than 9mm in price though it can be hard to find without the web.  I dunno the status these days, I make my own.
