What really happened to the 22's

App is back up and running. I was driving home from Louisville, Ky today and app said they had some CCI Stingers at the Middlesboro, Ky Walmart. Me and my wife went in and got 2 boxes of 50. They have a 1 box per caliber, not to exceed 3 boxes total per day. Just 100 rounds but I'll take it. I've found that the app works good for me. I'm not a re-seller, just a shooter and would like to build a good supply up so I don't have to worry about spending a day out shooting with my boys. Between the 5 of us, we can run through some 22 ammo.

The reason for the lack of 22lr is the manufacturers simply can't manufacture enough to meet demand.

The industry can produce about 8billion rounds of 22lr per year.

There are about 100 million owners who have a 22lr firearm.

Now usually, 90%+ of those owners don't shoot. Those firearms have been sitting in closets, under beds, hanging on the wall etc forever..... but panic set in and EVERYONE wanted to go buy some ammo.

Now do the math, 8,000,000,000/100,000,000 = 80 rounds per person per YEAR.

Now add in all the people who are getting it right off the truck and reselling it on gunbroker or at gunshows and there is no wonder 22lr has been impossible to find for so long.

I think its maily because no one can afford or find .223's so now with a ton cheap AR-15 style .22's out there and everyone is getting those, that has caused a spike in the demand and manufacturers cant keep up.

You can find .223 all over the place, even often at Wally, not to mention beau coup online -- and even though it's generally higher than before Sandy Hook, it's not even in the ballpark of inflated rate of .22LR.

I bought 3 boxes of Tula the other day for 5.20 base price each and didn't even nibble at the .45/round or so of ammo can full of American Eagle 5.56 they also had in stock.

You want .223? Here's tons of it, starting at 26.5 cents a round in your hand:

We have had .223/5.56 sitting on the shelves at our Wally World for the past month now. Also .45, .40 and 9mm.
