Importation of rifles

Does this mean a Manufacturer of firearms could import a TAVOR?

Sec. 5844. Importation

No firearm shall be imported or brought into the United States or any territory under its control or jurisdiction unless the importer establishes, under regulations as may be prescribed by the Secretary, that the firearm to be imported or brought in is:

(1) being imported or brought in for the use of the United States or any department, independent establishment, or agency thereof or any State or possession or any political subdivision thereof;or

(2) being imported or brought in for scientific or research purposes;or

(3) being imported or brought in solely for testing or use as a model by a registered manufacturer or solely for use as a sample by a registered importer or registered dealer; except that, the Secretary may permit the conditional importation or bringing in of a firearm for examination and testing in connection with classifying the firearm.

Is this a way to have a TAVOR built for me? Just curious about the research part, Was wondering if someone could reverse engineer one?

The Tavor was going to be imported by Barrett a few years ago. I don't know what happened but the deal went away and now we're talking about it.

They're really heavy and sort of useless, to be honest.

+1

They always reminded me of a rich kids nerf gun

I have plans to shoot her this weekend.

I still want a TAVOR, regardles if it is heavy. Barret backed out of building it for some reason. I think if enough people asked for it to a particular company they will build it. Dunno, ill just keep dreamin apparently.

I dunno. With Steyr bringing the AUG back to these shores the 'bull pup' market might be getting a little crowded.

Also if I remember correctly from the SHOT show hand out on it, it was going to be about 3x as much as other similar types in price.

The TAR-21 has been available on the Canadian market, for several months (almost a year) now. Thus my earlier joke about moving to Canada. They're going for $2,999 CAN, or $2,795 USD at the moment, as can be seen here.

That said... I would own the Tavor before a Steyr or clone. I was fortunate enough to play with the CTAR-21 at their range, while I was in Israel, and absolutely loved it. Far from useless, but I guess you know more about their needs than they did... and it wasn't really all that bad in the weight department due to how it's balanced.

You should try shooting one before making a decision. Finger banging one at a SHOT show doesn't really compare.

Wow Verbal...I sense from this and your other posts maybe you and JWP should PM each other to work out some differences ......still excited about a Steyr Aug!

Wall to wall counseling might be more appealing.

It irks me off when the pompous, uninformed, try to spew facts out of their ass, or can't backup half of what they claim in an attempt to promote themselves. Kinda like the guy that can be found at any range. The one that has a story for everything and has been there and done it... twice.

We have numerous vendors here on TGO. And I've only ever seen one make bold claims to THEIR brand being better than X, Y, or Z... spew unsupported BS... claim to have staff that apparently hail from Mt Olympus itself... or promote themselves at any given chance they can. I'll let you guess who I'm referring to.

It's also no secret that Joe (Hero Gear) and I have had cross words with each other in the past. Even still, I have respect for the guy and his business. He's of good character, always (that I've seen) recommends the other guy first if they're closer or has what the person needs, never claims his merchandise is better than someone elses (simply states his own experience or opinion and lists factual reasons why, then lets the customer choose), he never makes exaggerated claims or talks out of his ass about things he doesn't have actual real world experience with, and is generally pretty damn humble and reserved. Unless you piss him. And most of the other vendors are the exact same way.

My tolerance for stupidity is low lately... JWP is just the latest target. I'm sure, in time, it will pass.

For what it's worth, JWP has always treated me right and he's never advertised a 30/30 lever action as being used by US commandos in Equador or anything like that.

I tend to look past some of the comments made by any company stating that their product is the best out there but don't find it to be too peculiar when they do. If a company doesn't have faith in it's own products, then why should the consumer. Some companies are just a little more vocal.

Hey, the jury is still out on that one. I say we fund a South American "trip" for Mars to go investigate.

Actually, I just need some good cigars.

Hey, I've put the "welcome mat" out for Verbal to come on down and check our products out and see if the statements and claims hold any water.

I will continue to dust the mat off every morning and look toward Kentucky for signs of his arrival in hopes that he will come on down and finally drink from the trough so many other have and finally put on that black hat (we also have ACU and FDE available for those wishing to color match their accessories.)

ps. Never said I went to the SHOT show. That's not where I saw one, so............

The TAVOR is still my dream rifle.... and anyone with a manufacturing paper could make one, according to the listed words from the BATF&E. So anyone wanna make me one lol. Id pay $4,000.00 for one if I had the chance.

Also, if I had my own private security company. Would that allow me to import one?

Looking for loopholes here not arseholes. lol (NO PUN INTENDED)

Call Barrett and see if they have any demos stashed about.

Who knows? They might be able to hook you right up!

I did try calling them to verify if they were going to make any TAVORS. The answer was flat out nope. You wanna call them up for me? I think you owning your own gunshop would be more credible. May be able to have more pull than myself.

You asked if they were going to make any more, not if they had any.

I can call them if you would like though.
