Fail to fire suspect

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I'm not qualified like some of the folks here are in gun mechanics, but ! I found this culprit guilty of giving me a hard time by not making some primers pop! I checked all the usual suspects and this had to be it . The rifle it came out of works fine, gas is set fine,
Ammo is fine, here's what it came down to:

Kinda short right ???

They look the same but:

Top one is bad bottom works well.... Kinda interesting...problem solved.Did a lot of reading on this, When I hear hoof beats I think horses, not zebras..

Also the upper it came out of is fairly new,I believe this firing pin literally was just a micron out of size causing it to ftf every 4 or 5 rounds....changed the pin for a spikes firing pin, problem resolved...Just wanted to share that....and by the way its out of a piston upper (not a sig) so buffer issues were non existent, hammer spring was fine as well....

Look like the top pin is not ground back on the shoulder as the bottom one is.

Also look like the top pin has a bit of a mushroom on the tip.

Yes and yes, cept the mushroom is optical not physical. I had to look real hard at is as well...additional note the widest part of the pin is a tad too thick as well keeping the tip from extending longer as it should

AR firing pins are cheap and plentiful. Anyone's a fool not to keep a fair number of spares. I keep half a dozen on hand....just in case.
