Your Rights with a Police Officer

If you think that is good information; use it. If you have kids and are going to show them that, you have the responsibility of knowing the law and knowing what can happen on a traffic stop. If you don’t know; find someone that does; it might keep your kid from a criminal conviction that could ruin their life.

I just wish LEO's would abide by these rights and stop violating the rights of citizens. Every time they do, they personally chip away at the rights of us all, including their friends, family, and themselves moving us a little closer to a police state.

Most LOEs do abide by the law, any LOES gona post on this?

I'd say your are correct. I also say those LEOS will agree and understand exactly what I meant. I'm sure they get sick of watching the others abuse their powers and cross the line.

I’m not talking about abuse of power. I’m talking about how you handle yourself when you may be in violation of the law, and you are stopped by a good cop. Cops have discretion and telling your kid to turn into an attorney on the street may lead to a result they have to live with for life. They need to hear discussions on this and make their own decisions.

I don't think anyone needs to turn into an attorney on the street; in fact, I think doing so is incredibly stupid; the court room is the place for attorneys to argue the law.

On the other hand, I'd say that being polite, to never consent to a search and basically keep your mouth shut is usually the best way to go when stopped by police...if I've actually broken the law then it's likely they are going to ticket me or arrest me no matter what I say or don't say or whether I consent to a search or not.
