Anyone up for Coyote Hunting in Middle TN?

     I am not one to kill for sport, but since another thread has reminded/enlightened me to the "situation" between some of my favorite small game (quail, pheasant, rabbit) and coyote, I find myself wanting to help the cause of the small game in TN.  ie. It's no longer for sport; me killing coyotes now has a game-management purpose.

 

1) I've never hunted coyote before.

2) I'd like to hunt in a place that has a population control problem... ie farm, etc - where the landowner appreciates the effort.

 

 

Any ideas?  I'm open most weekends.  :)

I've wondered that too recently. Back in the late 70's people were hunting them and selling the pelts to South Korea, (IIRC), because they were allegedly making coats for their military.

Even with a nuisance animal like a coyote, I hate to kill just to kill. But then again, I'm not a farmer and my livelihood doesn't depend on it, so I'm not judging others either.

Pelts are sold by fur trappers all the time, even now.  Not sure if it would be worth the effort for one or two yotes though; on another site someone said they got like $50 for one, but by the tone of others it sounded like it was less, maybe $30 or so.

I built a DIY caller that I want to try out, it was easy enough to make from radio shack items; its loud so it should work as well as the commercial callers.

there is usually a yote hunt about this time of year up in LBL it is held annually Wiljo can give more info on it. my son and I went last year but didnt see anything but it was good to get out in the woods.

There is a small coyote hunting group in Knoxville area called Coyotes Unlimited.  may want to check them out.  The founder of the group is offering a clinic next month in the Knoxville area.  They have a web site.  Check it out and im willing to help as well.

 

They are a very helpful bunch and have a lot of knowledge.  Join the forums and ask questions.

crossville tn is the one we go to.  usually get anywhere from 25-30 for a GREAT yote pelt.

 

Otters and Bobcats bring in the dough .. you can check the average prices on this web page.  they have it once a year.

There are some good utube videos of coyotes taking down various game animals. In addition, they take lots of calves during the calving season, and pets from subdivisions with woods nearby. Someone posted earlier that it's a form of game management to take out coyotes. I'd love to learn how to coyote hunt in the Murfreesboro/middle Tennessee area.
