KY GUN FORUM??

I've been a member here a while, but now that I live in KY I might wanna join up with some locals. Anyone know what the MOST active KY gun forum is?

Not sure on the gun forums and I lived there for years... But in contrast, every forum in KY has a gun section in it.

When I lived in Georgia, I stayed most active on TGO.  I made enough trips back and forth it was worth it.  I did join the GA forums, but none seemed as active, nor as well run as this.  I think if I moved to Alaska I would still participate in this forum.   :up:

There is a Kentucky Gun Owners forum, but it looks pretty dead. A simple Google search didn't turn up too much.

i found a kentukiana forum (kentucky+indiana), but like you said, activity is minimal

It's an odd thing, really.  Kentucky has always had comparatively lax firearms restrictions in relation to Tennessee and many other states, and I think that has led to a certain amount of complacency among the people.  Tennesseans have had to fight hard for things like the HCP and the ability to carry firearms in restaurants that serve alcohol, so I think we're more appreciative of those things here and as a result are more engaged in furthering our rights and protecting the ones we already have.

 

I think that may be part of why the Kentucky gun forums aren't all that active.

I am not sure of everything, but my understanding is that there was one forum, there was some fall out and at the end of it there were two. A lot of members cross post. I wasn't involved, I don't know anything more than that. Both forums are fairly active, but I can't say that either of them have replaced TGO for me.

 

I moved to Kentucky two years ago. I have found that the secondary market prices are higher than Tennessee. That is extremely confusing when both Buds and KYGUNCO are less than an hour drive from where I am. I don't understand someone posting a pistol for sale that is $100 over sticker at a store.

 

I haven't met anyone from the Kentucky forums face to face, but I have met more than a dozen from here and had multiple good transactions when I still lived in Tennessee. As such, I still consider TGO my go to forum for guns over national or local. The Kentucky cats seem to think that their scratched up Marlins and sporterized Mosins are worth their weight in gold. As such, everything I have bought since I moved here has been retail.

 

If you are interested in just a for sale section, both have activity there, but it is considerable less than Armslist, and again, the price issue galls me.

maybe some insight on the prices ... sometime I am willing to pay a premium to have a gun "off the grid" (at least to an extent, depending on the sellers ability to maintain records).  I'll never pay more than what I would retail for a gun like this, but sometime I'll pay the sticker price if the gun is in good shape.

I am willing to pay retail sticker at the high end. If the gun is cherry. I am still spending fuel, so the only savings is tax, we don't pay for a background up here.

 

A lot of time it comes down to the fact that someone paid to much in the first place, or it truly ignorant to market prices. I tend to be a polite feller, when I have the time and wherewithal to inquire and I will explain "this is what I think you have, this is what I am willing to begin negotiations at". However, more times than not, I am responded to by a hurt seller who wants to tell me that he wants X for it, and is not willing to negotiate. 

 

I have walked away from more than one fair deal lately because someone wanted to get silly in the negotiations.

 I think you are probably on to something but I don't think you are giving yourself and the mods enough credit. It helps that there are decent knowledgeable folks that are willing to help here but I think the way issues are handled as well as what is and is not allowed goes a long ways in keeping people drawn to this sight.
