Gun Show Loophole

Recommended Posts

Just as an anecdotal.  On Saturday at the Chilhowie show, I saw "The Gun Show Loophole" shot all to pieces.  A woman right in front of me tried to buy a gun from a dealer and failed the background check with an outstanding felony.  Someone from the dealer's table slipped quietly out and alerted the police who respectfully and quietly escorted the woman and her friend from the building.

Not as exciting as what happend 2 years ago at the same show (shoplifters caught with 6 guns, dealer shoots self in hand, etc)

If I had my phone on me I would have snapped a pick (with faces blurred, of course) just to use as material against the gun show decriers.

Loophole isn't with dealers. It is with the good old boys that bring their guns and sell out of their trunk. Legitimate dealers never were the problem. All of the gun shows I have been to have been legit and following the rules inside the building. It is what happens in the parking lot that upsets the anti-gun crowd.

Its the "assault rifle' approach.  They demonize something with misleading and intentionally wrong terminology in hopes of shutting down gun shows entirely.

The left is *mightily* offended by gun shows and want them killed off.   Remember, to the CA/NY/country-wide anti-gun crowd, the following things are, in THEIR minds, illegal...

- buying and selling of guns, period

- gun ownership, period

- buying a gun or ammo without some form of ID and registration and preferably an entry into a database

- buying a gun or ammo without a 200+ day waiting period

- individual sales without a fee, tax, and registration and waiting period...

- individual sales without background checking, preferably with additional fees and registration

- buying of high powered guns, like the .22 LR which is rumored to have a range of OVER A MILE -- says so on the box!

- gatherings of malcontents who freely distribute anti leftist propaganda

- selling of components to MAKE extra special killer ammo

just to name a few!

Because of these and dozens of other evils, the left demonizes gun shows by playing the "gun show loophole" card every few months.   After all, 98% of the public does not know any better, so why not tell them what is in their best interest, which is, simply, "gun shows r bad".

I never considered people selling guns out of their trunks to be a problem.

Ah, so the gun show has nothing to do with it, then.  Its more of the "Private Property loop hole.

Yes. It's just very visible at gun shows, so the antis have dubbed it "the gun show loophole"

Correct. The anti’s don’t want to take on private sales head on; so they gave it a “loophole” name. There is no “loophole” in our state. The legislation they propose to fix the “loophole” is banning private sales.

I didn't say I thought there should be a law against selling out of the trunks. . I have bought a few guns "out of the trunk" myself, mostly shotguns. My point was simply that this the type of selling that they are after, not the gun show sales.

Exactly that. Once private sales are outlawed, your only legal source will be over the counter, well documented and recorded purchases. Leaving just one more source of those terrible instruments of war to be contained.

And yes, I know those sale records are not kept by any gov't agency. Right.
