Mini-14 SBR build

One of our dealers dropped this little project in our lap recently.  Their customer had a stainless Mini-14 and purchased a new front sight, factory flash hider, and a well-used factory folder stock and wanted it turned into a black SBR reminiscent of the old GB model but without the mid-barrel sight to accomodate a barrel lug.

We did the following:

-cut/crown the barrel at 13"

-threaded barrel 1/2"x28 by single-point to accept the flash hider

-fully disassembled ever part of the gun and stock

-sandblasted all metal, parkerized any carbon steel parts

-Duracoated all metal parts in matte black

-installed new front sight ass'y

Upon getting the metal finished nicely it made the beat-up stock look ratty so we stripped the stock (it was faded and yellowish), steamed out the various dents, sanded the wood smooth, and restained it.  The stock was a faded straw color initially, but we applied two base coats of colonial maple to give it a reddish undertone then applied 4 coats of gunstock color over that to give it the correct Ruger color with a little more red tone.  This was followed with 10 coats of teak oil and buffed to a gloss finish.

Face and B.A. are gonna love this.

Yeah, when they asked us about doing the build I said "sounds like someone watched 'A-Team' too much as a kid" ;)
