I'm just guessing but it probably has some merits. In the long run doesn't it all come back to the fact that your calorie intake has to be less than or equal to your burn rate in order not to gain weight?

That is exactly how I took off 55 lbs (~1/3rd of my weight) and kept it off 7 years so far). But.....even so.........

When things like this pop up as a trend (And thats what it is a trend), I go right to Live Science, there are actual Scientists that write on everything there, there are a dozen articles on this stuff. . There is no conclusive proof it works as stated,. Most of the cheap supplements do not even contain the extracts, they only use the name, and the reason it is not registered as a "drug" and Pharmacuetical companies do not sell it is there is no proof that it does anything,

What has been proven is that it that the fruit is safe to eat, and for a healthy person the "REAL" extracts are safe to take, for at least 12 weeks, the length of the actual clinical trials, but the extracts do lower blood sugar and can be dangerous for diabetics. the FDA Clinical trials also show that it can have negative effects on people with Dementia, Alzheimers and other forms of the disease, there have been 20 reports of people that suffered severe side effects including possible liver damage which caused the FDA to release a statement in 2009 that people who decide to use it should consult with their Doctors.

As the Scientists on Live Science state, it isnt Doctors, Clinicians, or Scientists recommending this stuff, its Marketers making claims.

When I used to work out every day I took all sorts of crap, what I found that helped me when working out was "Working out", when I decided it was time to lose weight I took all sorts of crap, what I found that actually caused me to lose weight (I am down to 235 from 286 a year ago) was eating less and start getting some sort of exercise again.

Haven't yet found a single "Miracle pill" that did anything.

Want to make millions on a diet pill?

Make one that makes food taste like crap or nothing at all. The problem isn't from people who continue to eat because they still feel hungry, it is from people who continue to gorge themselves because it tastes good.

Most diet fads are just that, fads. Metabolism and caloric intake are probably the two more important players that are grounded in real science. Also, most sheep...er....people eat so much garbage and poison on a daily basis, it is no wonder they have weight problems.

Just think of it this way, most people don't know that they brush their teeth with toothpaste containing ingredients common to products such as coolant, rat poison, and antibacterial hand soap. So why would they care what's in their body when they don't care what's in their mouth.
