purchasing optics in Nashville

I'm wanting to pick up a spotting scope. Any ideas on where to shop for glass in Nashville without paying way too much?

I recommend checking any sporting goods store and the lgs's. Doubt if any will have a large selection. On line probably the best bet. I've been hunting for a tactical 1x scope and finding them in any number to compare is tough. Will take some time to handle different versions. I'm trying to buy once cry once. Might try Gander Mountain or maybe Dicks.

For what it's worth, I bought a Redhead spotting scope at Bass Pro. It was reasonable, and does what I want it to do. The tripod really sucks, but the scope is ok.

I've found Optics Planet to be a good source. I just bought a Millett scope regularly priced at $249 for $199 on sale, then at checkout clicked a coupon box and got $10 off of that. Also got free shipping. I've bought 4 or 5 items and and I've always been pleased.

I have spent way too much time on Optics Planet for the last 24hrs.  I finally bought a Vortex Nomad 20x60x60 straight (the discontinued model... I suspect it is the same as the Viper (non HD) without the fine focus adjustment.

I bought it at Outpost Armory... it was $299, it was as good or better than the leupold 20x60x80 ($549) that I compared side by side.  I also looked at the Redfield, the Vortex was a bit more solid feeling... and has the Vortex warranty.

For what it's worth, the Oculus brand 20x60x80 at BassPro had amazing clarity at 60x.. .. I would've bought it, but I couldn't stomach not knowing about the durability.

Good comments. Let us know how it works out for you. I've been wanting to look for a spotting scope as well. It can be daunting, to say the least.

Will do.  It is daunting.  I WANTED to buy a Vortex Razor HD for $1500.00....  :)... but.

I also passed on the Konus 20x60x100... which seems to be a great little range scope  -- but big.

From the long range hunting forums I gathered that I can get my fancy 80mm objective scope later for spotting at the range, but this scope will serve me well for now and will double later as a lightweight, compact 60x scope for backpacking, etc.

Yes, I understand and feel your pain. I looked at quite a few and realized I was od'ing on info. I had to back off.

I did like the Razor, my budget did not.

I did entertain the notion of the Kronos, and haven't completely ruled it out. Price and abilities almost make up for the size.
