Miserable night

Glad to see that Ernie is doing better! I can certainly relate:

Had my gallbladder yanked back in '09 after several bouts of pancreatitis and that was supposed to take care of things. It didn't and I've ended up in the hospital twice since then - most recently last Saturday morning (got out Christmas Eve afternoon). Chronic pancreatitis isn't any fun, whether in people or pups and sometimes there's not a hell of a lot you can do to prevent it. A low fat diet, with little or no alocohol consumption is good, but (as I've discovered twice) no guarantee. Went through a boat load of tests with this last round, including an hour-long MRI and they can find absolutely no reason whatsoever for the flare-ups. Sometimes life just sucks.

Give Ernie my best and tell him he's got a two-legged big brother who understands exactly what he's going through and sympathizes with him to the max!

  :hat:

We are on out way to have our Ernie Bird put down. The last 36 hours he has begun to show signs of getting worse.

It is unfair to him to let him linger to satisfy our hopes of him getting better.

He is only four and even now we struggle to try to comprehend why this happened.

If you need anything let me know. Sad day indeed. Much love to Ernie.

I am very sorry, Gordon. It truly hurts to imagine what you are going through. I dread the day I find myself in your shoes. You, the missus, Ernie will be in our thoughts. If there's anything we can do, please don't hesitate to ask.

So so sorry to hear that.

Don't know if it's any comfort, but a certain percentage of canine pancreatitis seems to be "idiopathic", meaning cause unknown, so it may well be that it was beyond anything you or any vet science could remedy. When bad things happen to good people or good dogs, sigh, just another vale of tears in this life.

When you care for an animal, they become part of and are family. I'm sorry for your loss, but try to find some sort of comfort that he isn't in any pain.

So sorry to hear this. Pets are family members and losing them is really hard. The best we can do is make their time with us as enjoyable and rewarding as it can be.

Just read this. So sorry for your loss. You are great, responsible owners for doing what was right. May he rest in peace.

Sorry to hear this, Dolomite.  As ridiculous as it might be, I care for my dog more than I care for most people that I know.  It's going to be a bad, bad day when his time comes.

+1

People are awful but dogs are only awful after people have made them that way.

Really sorry to hear about your loss...having just lost my little girl in October I know much too well how it feels...I still tear up when I think of her.  I think we can take a lot of comfort in the knowledge that we provided these four-legged family members a good, loving home.

I hate that Ernie was put down, but I respect that ya'll chose that route vs having a suffering friend live in pain just for the sake of having him around a little longer. Sent from somewhere in the cosmos using magic...and bacon. Edited by Ted S.

Sorry to hear this. My sister's family went through the same thing two weeks ago. Pets truly become a part of the family. Sent barefoot from the hills of Tennessee
