I have heard there is a place near Bartlett/Brunswick area that has various ranges out to several hundred yards. I looked on their website and membership is a little pricey. I was wanting opinions from members if the benefits are worth the cost of membership?

I have met several people who are members at MSSA who speak very highly of the facility.  After shooting at the local ranges and becoming disenchanted with getting guns pointed at me by Joe Schmoe, I am seriously considering a membership.  The initial start up is a little steep, but the annual dues are not much more than you would spend going to the indoor ranges in this area.  And you have the ability to shoot higher power firearms at this range....and I am itching to shoot an AK

If you go out there and tell them you are considering joining the club, they will take you around for a tour of the place so you can see everything.  While the initiation fee is a little steep, there aren't really any other options out this way so they can kinda charge what they want.  I'm sure it helps them be more selective in who joins also without outright saying it.  While they have various ranges out there, you don't get immediate access to all areas.  In order to shoot past 100yds, you have to qualify at 200 & 300, then again if you want to move out to the 600.  I can't remember exactly, but I think the cowboy action area is an invite/special member area.  Aside from the occasional stubborn guy that doesn't want to get off the line so it can be called cold, its not a bad range.  Oh and one other thing, if the Loosahachie ever floods, the club shuts down for a while.

Thank you for the input. I appreciate it

If you want to shoot rifles around here and don't have/know anyone with land, this is just about the only game in town.

The money I would have spent shooting at the local indoor ranges is better spent at MSSA....not to mention avoiding the aggravation.  You'll have more freedom and options there.  IMO, it is well worth the money.  That initial fee sucks but long term, I think its more than worth it.

It's a very nice facility which they keep improving all the time. After the up front cost is taken care of, the annual costs are very fair.

Lessee...trap, skeet, wobble wheel, 5 stand, sporting clays, action pistol (3 gun), SASS (Cowboy), 7 and 15 yrd .22 rifle and all cal pistol range.

50 yd range, 2 100 yard ranges, a 200-300 yd range, a 200-300-400-500-600 yd range, archery range, axe/knife tossin range. Lastly an Indoor

pellet gun range, although I think max power is like 600 fps. Berms were made from digging holes which in turn became fishing holes up to 60 ft deep.

Machine gun range behind the 600 yd range. Silenced smoke poles ok. Silhouette from 45 yds to 300 yds.

Qualifications (all quals are for safety) for 200-300 yds to make sure you understand come ups. Then shoot that for a few weeks and re-qual for 600 yd (HP) again learning about

holding at the distances. In other words learning what your rifle does at those distances.

More quals: action pistol, SASS guys take care of their own on their range. Machine gun.

No Ma Duce, 50's to keep our berms intact.

Remember the quals are all about safety.

Matches: IPSC, IDPA, .22 BR 50yds,  .22 Silhouette, .22 prone 50/100yds. Bullseye, Blackpowder silhouette, Pistol Silhouette.

Actually the list goes on and on. There's something for everyone at MSSA.

Brand new beautiful cub hose. No porta-potties but nice rest rooms on the main pistol/100 yd firing lines.

The current price is $240 a year. That's $20 a month.

The bite: $400 one time initiation fee.

Hope this gives ya'll a feel for our club.

Lp

Im from Bartlett if you'd like to come shoot.

If you do the tour thing, don't be shocked when you see the action pistol range--the berms are being rebuilt.  They are supposed to look like the 7/15 pistol range when they are finished.
