I was in Newport yesterday evening and as I drove around the prices ranged from a low of 3.96 at Walmart to 4.49 at Valero. I started filling up at Citgo for 3.99 and after 1 gallon the pump shut off, so I put my card back in and tried pumping again and they had raised the price to 4.19! I went to Walmart and was in there for an hour or so and when I got out, Walmart was still at 3.96 and there was a line all the way out to the main road. Then as I drove back through town, the prices at the other stations were 4.49 all the way to 4.99!!! I haven't been out today and I don't plan to as I stocked up on everything I needed yesterday. I found this website you guys might want to check out before going to get gas: http://www.tennesseegasprices.com/

I would go in to the Citgo and demand the lower price just on principal. Its my understanding that while someone is pumping its actually illegal to change the price....though im sure that carries as much weight as a handgun sticker with a cross through it ;-D

TN State AG: be on the lookout for possible gas gouging

http://www.wate.com/global/story.asp?s=9000416

NASHVILLE (WATE) -- Tennessee Attorney General Bob Cooper wants state residents to be on the lookout for potential gas price gougers during Hurricane Ike.

Price gouging is illegal in Tennessee.

Cooper warns that some business people may try to take advantage of consumers by raising prices for goods and services so high they're unreasonable.

"The state has the ability under the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act and other laws to prosecute price gougers," Cooper said Friday in a press release.

"Price gougers would include those who unreasonably raise the price of essential goods, commodities, or services in the wake of natural disasters occurring in other states even if a state of emergency has not been issued in Tennessee," Cooper added.

Call the state's consumer hotline at 1-800-342-8385 to report price gouging activities or click here http://state.tn.us/consumer/ccp.html to file a complaint online.

I'm going out in a little bit to take pictures of a few gas stations around me that are charging nearly $5 a gallon for 87. That is gouging in anyone's book when two days ago it was $3.4x

I will be making a list and sending it in.

A few places in Winchester are at $5.29 but if you drive a block or two over its 3.99 and 3.79 depending on the station.

anyone selling gas for that much should be strung up... IMHO!

All I have to say to this board is this, all of you should have an emergency stockpile. You know better!

And what I'll say to the all the price gouging.... at the end of the day, the guy with the most bullets wins, the rest of you are drinking blue toilet water!
