Had not heard of it, was surprised I had not seen it mentioned on here but considering the Breaking Bad hoopla, not surprising, that was about the only series I watched last year. Sitting around looking for something to watch and came across "Last Resort" on Crackle. That first episode was beyond great (For a TV series). So in case you haven't seen it. I have only seen the first episode but couldn't pull myself away from the TV.  The writing isnt on BB level, but darn good.

ABC cancelled this show on the 13th episode, poor ratings, poor ratings because it was up against Thursday Night Football, 2 1/2 Men and the X Factor. This show received great reviews (I read some after watching it to see what season it had got up to). And even thought they had to tie up every story line in the 13th Episode, according to the reviews (Viewers and Reviewers) the writers did a great job, I havent seen it yet of course.

The time is "In the near future"

The President is about to be impeached for his oppressive Government.

The U.S.S. Colorado (Not a real sub) Nuclear Submarine is on patrol on the Indian Ocean. Picks up a SEAL Team just off a mission, crosses the Equator and gets a message, launch on Pakistan.

The message comes through secondary channels, so the Captain and XO getting ready to turn the keys decide to check orders from a higher authority since they are only supposed to receive orders through a secondary channel if D.C. is gone. But they are seeing on the TV nothing but normal shows, no news alerts, etc.The Captain (Andre Braughr) decides to wait for orders from higher, the Asst Secretary of the Navy relives him of duty On the phone) and puts the XO in charge, same as above with the XO.

They refuse to launch, when they do they get an incoming missile and take emergency action. News reports go out that Pakistan has sunk one of our Subs. The ship that actually fired was the USS Illinois. The CNO thinks there is really a War on, his daughter is a Lt. on the Colorado. While a NATO monitoring station on a tiny island is watching (they had tracked the incoming missile and surmised the US sunk one of it's own boats), Israel launches two Nukes into Pakistan.

The Captain of the Colorado decides if they try to give up they will be destroyed by their own people, Nuclear War has already started. So he takes the boat to the Island where the monitoring station is located.

The US sends two B1 Bombers to destroy the Colorado, the Captain of the Colorado launches one of his missiles to Washington in response with the ultimatum that unless the B1's turn around, he will let the Nuke hit Washington. The B1's turn around and the Captain informs the SECNAV that the window to destroy the missile has passed.

More happens, then the Captain sends a video message to the American People broadcast over the News. He has put a 200 mile buffer around the Island, he now "owns" the monitoring station and the Nuclear Sub and he has 16 more Nuclear Missiles and he will launch if....

That's part of it. I can only speak on my opinion on the first episode, but it was good.

Yes, it wasn't bad. But the storyline wasn't one that could go for very long. Not the sort of situation that could, nor would be left alone in reality.  But we are talking tv here...so anything, no matter how implausible, could be drawn out.

The Korean War lasted 11 years on TV.  Then the Doctors show back up as Civilians in the late 1980's and are only in their 50's, and Corporal Max Klinger, 35 years older, didnt appear to age a day.

Well , saw the 1st two disc's and was impressed about parts and not about others and waiting for 3rd and last disc to arrive to finish watching it all. It does have it's moments and would make you think just how dangerous it could be if a Commander and Captain of a Nuclear Submarine with a full armament of 20 Nuclear missiles and full compliment of torpedoes could in fact hold the world at bay for an extended period of time. I will wait to see the last disc before making a final decision on the program but still pretty interesting story line...................jmho
