Considering trading away an indebted vehicle

I'd still rather own than rent.

I thought we were all about personal responsibility here :P

Agreed.  We had to move back into an apartment while I was transitioning from one job to another, and it sucked big time.  But owning a home is way more expensive than just the mortgage payment.  It's part of the reason why some people end up "house poor".  They don't realize all the extra expenses that come with owning a house and making it a home.

I think part of it was growing up in a home where my dad was an avid DIYer. I bet about only 50% of what is there now is original. You can't do that with a rental. When my brother was being born in the front bedroom, he took the day off work... and spent it at the top of a garden building a shed.

I haven't inherited all of that gene but I don't know how I'd feel if I couldn't throw in an ethernet jack or cut holes in things when I wanted to.

Not that I'm criticizing those who would prefer to rent, I just don't understand it. I guess I'm like that Duck Dynasty guy that way. :P

I would guess my Dad would give your Dad a run for his money. Now that I'm out on my own and renting, there are so many things I'd want to do but since I am renting I feel so restricted. I decided just to be patient another year or two and buy my own house.
