Cancer victim booted from Mortons for not removing his hat

I am not a fan of Morton's food anyway, but for me, this is simply the case of an ignorant employee(s) proving their inability to use any form of common sense.  I think the company did try to do the right thing, although I don't really think they did a great job of it.  I am with Caster that I would rather go to Stoney River.  I have been to some of the best steakhouses around the world and for me, Stoney River provides as good a piece of steak as almost any of them.

On the other side, I have a very differing opinion on the whole how people dress issue.  I am by no means saying people can't dress how they want, but for me it is a direct reflection of the direction of society.  Many people have no self respect anymore for themselves or anyone else.  I was taught that there is a time and place for everything.  Wearing a hat in a nice restaurant was not allowed, not because someone said you couldn't, but because it showed a lack of respect to the establishment and others around you.  This in no way relates to the issue in this thread, of course there are always exceptions.  When we went to church, you wore a suit or dress slacks, shirt, and tie.  Again it was respect for the church.  I am now atheist, but even now, if I am going to go to a church, I still wear dress slacks and a tie and there is probably nothing more I despise in this world than most hypocritical religious zealots.

There are many example out there that fit this bill.  It isn't just about I should be able to do what I want no matter what.  It about having some respect for yourself and other people, but of course that has been going out the window for years.  You can say what you want, but there are reasons places have dress codes and in most cases I am all for it.  No one is forcing anyone to eat there or go that establishment.

As others I have stated, the situation that occurred at Morton's was a whirlwind of mistakes but I'm glad that they tried to make it right because they could have easily said "Screw those people" and moved on.

....If you cant handle me wearing my hat then I will be absolutely be more than happy to spend my money somewhere else. I dont see it as a bad manners thing, I see it as a free country and something that nobody should be offended by. If a non offensive hat offends you then you obviously just have too much time on your hands.
Being able to wear a hat wherever you want (in this case a restaurant) doesn't have anything to do with being a "free country". It's about etiquette and knowing what's proper. For example, let's say that you take your significant other on a date that has a coat policy. Well, if you didn't wear your coat then guess what...you will certainly get turned away. Or let's say you decided to shop at Walmart in your underwear, t-shirt and hat, once again you would get turned away. The latter example is more on the extreme side but to people who associate in different circles, not dressing appropriately for the environment might be perceived just as offensive to them. But like you said and what's most important is that you can choose to spend your money wherever you want and that is free Edited by blueghost

It's hard ta keep people from being what they are... If they are overbearing and unreasonable and are in a place where they exercise a bit of it publically; it will come out  pretty quickly... It's sad that in the season of kindness and brotherly love that more aren't; but that it the way of things....

Go to people of Wal-Mart.com...heck go to your local Wal-Mart, they don't turn anything away.

Sounds like a place I'd never go anyway, but definitely not now.

A dress code... at a restaurant??  I understand the concept of decorum, but this situation is just plain ignorant.

I have no problem with a dress code at a restaurant. There is a reason for it and I respect the right for a business to have such a policy. However, when a man says he is going through chemo you don't f'ng ask for a doctor's note to justify your beanie cap. The manager that told the server to tell him that should be fired and subsequently rot in hell.

Seems some have a difference in opinion on what makes good character and self respect than I do. I'm by no means a religious person but I did think Jesus' take on that subject made a helluva lot more sense than any outward appearance of nice dress and manicured fingernails. Judgement is a tough thing to suppress in one's character. Always has been, always will be and always comes back to haunt ya. I'm stickin' with, "Stay off my yard!", if ya get my drift. Liberalism is like a double shadow chasin' people down the wall and they don't even see it, most times. Sorry if that offends some but "Stay off my yard!" means more than it says.

Morton's could be forgiven when they fire that stupid f'ng manger.

This is all it would take. Surely Morton's doesn't have a "discriminate against cancer patients" policy and this Catrina lady just went all stupid on him. It is totally understandable that they may have a dress code which includes "no hats," but a professional in a customer service industry should have enough common sense to know when policies need to be overridden. The fact that she doesn't shows that she needs to find a career where common sense isn't required.

Let me guess, they have a one of those Zero tolerance policies that a worker tried to enforce because I bet they don't give the employees room to make simple decisions.

I bet when they came back and ask for a doctors note, I bet a higher up told the person to ask for that.

They can take their over priced dog food and shove it up their azz.

That is ridiculous. I swear if it'd been me, I'd have slung plate and all across the dining room and dared them to do anything about it.

a reaction I've come to expect from you. You seem to be able to go from 0-60 at the slightest hint of something not to your liking.

My guess is they would have accepted the dare. If they'd call the cops on some folks objecting to a "no hats" policy for a cancer patient, the SWAT team surely would be called for someone who starts flinging dishes.

You know, the hippies say violence doesn't solve anything. I say, if that's true, you're doing it wrong.
Ten minutes behind the dumpster with a sjambok and the manager and the employee would see things more clearly. I'll guarantee it.

Remind me again: Why is it that gun owners get a bad rap as being hotheads looking for a fight? It's not coming to me.  :shake:
