CQB/Med Range Scope Help Needed

Recommended Posts

I am a "babe in the woods" when it comes to scopes but would like a good quality 1x4 or 1x6 tactical scope with illuminated reticle for use with a tactical rifle. Only have had two magnification scopes in my lifetime. One an entry level Bushnell and the second, a nice 3x25 Valdada.  Looking at the Burris line, ie the XTR, MTAC and SkullTac. Also the Vortex Razor HD Gen 2. The Gen 2 is way more money but is 1x6 which interests me. The Burris SkullTac package seems to be a good bang for the buck but I wonder if the optics are less than their MTAC line. I have one Leupold product, a Prismatic red dot. Glass etched reticle. It is excellent but a little hard on batteries. A Leupold is not out of the running. Any experience shared would be helpful.

I had a burris 332 fixed power.  I could use it CQB fairly well, and it held zero perfectly, and I could hit medium range - 1--yds very well at speed,... but it just didn't fit perfect.  I would say go vortex/leupold, etc. if you can.

I have heard nothing but great reviews of the Vortex HD stuff.

hmmm... Good luck.   I wonder when Aimpoint is going to come out with a 1/4 throw lever like the elcan... but with a red dot... and classic aimpoint battery life.

If I could afford it, I would go for the vortex G2 1-6.  Probably a bit heavy... but fantastic.

Who else?  What else?

my next mid range scope will be a SWFA.com Super Sniper 1-6x24 HD FFP scope. they run around $1k iirc but the reticle interests me a lot. at 1x, its a donut with a small crosshair in the middle but at 6x, since its a FFP scope, the reticle grows into a regular milling type reticle and the donut pretty well disappears.

the biggest thing I don't like about the razor hd is its a reticle for .223 iirc and I will run mine on an 18" .308

I just ordered a Trijicon Accupoint TR24g 1-4x triangle reticle. I will let you know how that works out for me. Big downside of the Accupoint is the lack of reticle options. For my purposes of 300yds and in I don't have a problem with the triangle, or should I say I don't think I will. I also have a Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 1.5-4x and I enjoy that although at 1.5 it can be a little slower than my aimpoints seem to be at close up work. Not much though.
