Burris PEPR scope mount....Which one?

Recommended Posts

I like the idea of the quick disconnect system, but have read some bad reports of them coming loose unexpectedly. Would I be better off with the conventional bolt on model? Also, would this provide plenty of clearance for fold down back up sights?

Do you have any other good options? Regular rings don't seem to position the scope correctly, and are too low for my fold down sights.

Thanks a lot in advance for your guidance.

Don't know about the PEPR specifically, but I have a GG&G that is very similar that leaves plenty of room for my backup iron sights.  Most mfgs. can tell you if your backups will fit and what height mount to buy based on the scope you're using.  From what I've seen, the Magpul flip-up rear sight is most commonly the one that has fit issues as it's a bit larger.  The eyepiece on my scope (Leupold 1.5-5 x 30mm) is 1.70 inches if that helps; there is no front bell so the eyepiece is the largest diameter portion of the scope.  Here's a photo to give you an idea of what's working for me:

ETA: I'm using the Midwest Industries low-profile flip-up rear sight.  There's more clearance (4-5mm) than there appears to be in the pic.

I don't put backup sights on a gun with a real scope. Some folks do. If you want the best repeatable quick mount for an AR, Larue is it. Get yer wallet out. A PEPR is great. I have two. I just got the permanent mounts

I have a quick PEPR.  I've only had it at the range one time... and apparently didn't have it "figured out".  ... really, how hard can it be?

BUT.  I have realized that when you adjust the tension knob on the right side (it pulls out and rolls past detents, then pushes back in toward the mount)... roll it back to the detent before you clamp down -- otherwise is will loosen under fire.

I want to trust this mount, heck.. I didn't even get it zeroed last time... kept loosening up on me... but I hadn't noticed the play in the detents.

I've got a PEPR with QD on an AR. Just make sure the tension adjusting doobers are in correct position as Peace mentions.

Has been rock steady, and quite good at keeping zero when unmounted/remounted. I've since changed scope to a nice Nikon and some other stuff too, but still use the PEPR.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'm going to try the 2 piece Nikon P series mounts. They look good, are light, and priced right. I do think I may later wish for the quick detach system or the Burris, however.

Don't let one of the rings land on the handguard rail. The scope needs to be supported by the receiver rail only. In other words, A plain set of rings won't work on an AR (usually).

Right. These are made just for an AR.
