Black rifle disease.

There's no more questioning it, I've got it and I think pretty badly.

About This time last year I didn't have even one EBR. As of about 15 minutes ago I now technically have five. Now keep in mind that two are upper and lower only at this point and one of them isn't quite done yet, BUT I have an order of parts on the way and my Midway cart full again already. I should have all but the TGO build done by mid January. Heck one of them will most likely be done before Christmas.

<Sigh>

I guess there's no use fighting it at this point is there? The disease has taken over.

How about you all, how fast did you succumb to the sickness? I want to try and see what kind of quality of life I have ahead of me.

And of course, here's a pic. Because it happened.

Nice starting collection.

I got my first, an old Olympic model, about 5 years ago. Got it as payment for some money I was owed. Not sure who got the best of that deal.

Then, a couple years later, a Colt Sporter in 9mm. Still my fav.

Since then, there's been a couple of Bushmasters and a Sabre. Both long gone. And there have been a couple more lately, including a Colt 6920 Magpul and a Sig has passed thru my hands a time or two.

But the strange thing is that I really, so far, prefer shooting a couple of AKs that I've acquired in trades. Go figure.

Ah jeeze, don't get me started. I've had a funny feeling deep in my gut. At first I thought it was gas but I'm starting to feel that it ought be this EBRD worsening.

Why do I get the feeling that 2014 will be the year of the AK?

Ever year is the year of the AK, brah.

And all I have is a couple of supposedly low end models. Think if I had a good one! That would be awesome!

I'd still like one of the VEPR models in 556.

GAH!!! Those are pretty much collectors items now, WAHHHHH!!!

VEPR's are really sweet. Centerfire got in some of the Polish Beryl which is the replacement for their AK copies, it's still an AK but a REALLY badass one. The Semi auto only variant is the Beryl 'Archer'.

Yes, that is nice whitewolf001. Wish I'd been more on the ball when the importation began on the VEPR line....could have gotten 2 for the price of one these days.

Maybe I'll walk into another trade deal for one.

Well, I can dream.. can't I?

I built my first lower a little over a year ago, and then quickly slapped an upper on it.  Then about a month ago I put an Aimpoint PRO on it.  It is hands down my favorite rifle.

Only reason I haven't gotten any more EBRs to help cure my BRD is lack of $$.  It costs enough just to feed the one I have!  (I've started getting into reloading, but I haven't delved into .223 yet ... I'm learning to load .45/9mm first - next will be .223/5.56).

Also, I have to work on an acute case of Glockitis .... it won't be cured any time soon.

I am 1/2way through my first build but I can already see I'm going to find space for at least 3. I'm not sure I'll ever buy a complete one, just going to keep my eye out for the bargains.

I would buy a complete rifle but it would have to be a pretty great price. I'm having fun learning and messing around so I think buying one complete would be almost anti climactic for me.

Right now I'm having trouble deciding which calibers I want to go with. I understand the purpose of each caliber enough to know that I honestly don't need anything other than 5.56 but I want more variety in my life.

The 6.8 is on back burner as I'm just not convinced it has anything to offer to me over the 5.56.

300blkout is a strong contender, its gaining enough popularity that I think ammo wont be to hard to source in a few years (guessing?) plus I plan to start reloading in 2014 anyway. I like the idea behind the 300blkout, it seems like it would be a good choice for me to have some fun messing with. I don't hunt, I'm not anticipating any close quarter combat so I guess I'm just not sure there is much merit to the round as a paper puncher though. I'll have to try one and see.

6.5grendel has got my attention. I like what I'm reading and it seems I may want to go with one of these. MikeGideon is not helping matters AT ALL!

I like the idea of a light round that is just starting to get going where the 5.56 is starting to lose its steam. The only thing keeping any Grendel parts out of a midway cart is simply the cost. For everything. From the bolt on to the glass, this doesn't seem like a build that one would want to try to make on a budget. Plus I have nowhere to shoot any kind of distance that would merit the round. I still like it though.

458socom I just don't know enough about. I like the idea and everything but I need to read up and definetly try one before putting money into building one. I'm not sure why, I have no idea what kind of possible real world applications it would have for me, but I do want one... I think.

Anyone up to split a can of 5.56? They have them at my local walmart but at 450, that's more than I'd want to buy in one go just yet.

I think these might be 1500s but I wasn't really paying attention. I'll try to get another look but I avoid WM this time of year (Between Jan 1st and Dec 31st)

I might go in on a can with you tnguy. If the cases at Walmart are 1,500 that's a great deal on brass ammo.

I thought the case's at Wally World are 1k rounds, but its been awhile since I have seen one, never bought one so don't remember. If that's the case and you only want about 1/2 that, PSA is the way to go.

I just jumped on the deal from Palmetto. Tnguy, I would recommend it to you as well, shipping to Franklin/brentwood was $15.00 I threw a few other things on the order to and the shipping stayed at $15.00 if you have other things to buy. Edited by TrickyNicky

OK. The wife is going to WM later (maybe) so I'll get her to check on the details. They said they've been there a while and not been moving (at that price, understandable).

720 rds for 420 dollars. I misremembered by quite a lot :)

(Edit: I have a sneaking suspicion the price is a little higher too. I suspect those will be sitting there a while).

Well we were both wrong, the PSA deal is better than I thought.

I think the Walmart stuff might be 62grain, but again my recollection could be way off.

I think it was 55 from what I read but I was paying far too little attention. At this stage, I wouldn't be surprised if I was looking at a box of crayons :)

Probably will bite on the PSA deal if it's still going today or tomorrow. It's payday :)

I just need to make some extra effort to do more shooting if I do get them.
