Christmas commercials this year???

I have been paying more attention to the TV commercials more this year than normal and I have just a few questions about them. I have been watching a few of the latest Ford commercials with kids about 12 years old sitting on Santa's lap and asking him for Super Duty Ford trucks and Ford Focus's that park themselves. Also I see a lot of Santa commercials advertising Mercedes Benz automobiles and driving one like a sleigh.Gosh and they start at only $29,996.00. I'm sure people are breaking their necks to get to a Mercedes dealer right now to get two of them!!!!! All of the Auto makers are in on the Christmas advertising. I am just curious as to how many people here are going to buy their 12 year old kids a new Super duty Ford truck or a Focus that parks itself? If it's not cars it's Diamonds. They advertise Diamonds at prices starting at $1,000.00 and go up from there. With this economy how many people can afford to just run out and buy Diamonds for a couple grand for Christmas?? I also wonder how many people buy new Cell Phones for gifts? Nothing like buying someone a new phone and giving them another debt to pay for each month. I can see buying a new phone if you can move your existing service over to it but if you buy an AT&T phone and have Verizon service can you change the service on the phone without paying an arm and a leg?  What happen to all the children's toy commercials that were on TV when I was a kid?  Lincoln Logs and erector sets, Chatty Kathy and Easy Bake Ovens. Have kids been all but left out of what Christmas really is all about? I know the real Reason for the Season has been all but removed from our lives. Has it been removed from the children too?????...................jmho

It's the channels/times you watch. If you want to see commercials for toys and kid stuff you have to watch channels/times that advertisers associate with children.

Them add men are pretty good at what they do.

As to the economy and people buying diamonds and cars for Christmas, its important to remember that that the economy hits everyone but what that hit means is highly individual to each person. There may be people who took a 50% pay cut this year who can buy all the cars and diamonds they want. After all, 50% of $10,000,000.00 is still $5,000,000.00 ;)

Ah how the other half live.

Times changed and easy bake ovens don't hold a girls attention like a Ipad or a Kindle.. Those times are over. Its a generational thing. The kids now are into different things.. just like I was more into other stuff than my parents because different things where around then. When my kid was born,Nindendo and the computer where then  a new thing.. But he did play with Legos and still has a huge box. Doesn't mean he didn't like more of the electronic devices  when he was growing up.

Face it.. its not 1970 anymore.

You don't need lots of money to go out and buy a car you don't need that costs a whole bunch at 20% interest. I see lots of min wage people driving around in cars I couldn't afford, and I have a big boy job.

Well I guess most folks are right about their opinions I have read. I guess I am just old fashion and remember Christmas in a different light and have not stayed up with the times. In all honesty I will just sit back and remember the old commercials from years ago and remember what Christmas is really suppose to be about. i have not had to do any Christmas shopping in years anyway. All my kids are grown and my grandchildren are all grown and having children of their own and I have just went to Walmart and bought gift cards for the Great grand babies and let their parents buy for them and put from Santa on the packages to them...............jmho
