Marcus Luttrell chats w Anderson Cooper on Red Wing, the movie, and what happened on one of the worst days in the history of the US Navy Seals.

Marcus Luttrell was a sole survivor from an op that went bad, but, i feel as he does,he was blessed with the task to tell the story behind the heartwrenching account of what happened on that day in 2005.
This link will get you to the print story and you tube video excerpt from 60 minutes...If this account of what happened doesn't grind you from the inside out I don't know what will...makes me appreciate everything i have. god bless all of our SF guys and everyone else supporting"the mission"

If there's a man alive who can claim to be a tougher sum bitch than this guy, he's a friggin liar.

.....and to call himself a coward? I don't know how to respond to that, other than BS!

The book is amazing and the movie doesn't look to bad. I'm sure I'll go when it comes out. He is an amazing man.
If you still have doubts--look up about his dog being killed. How he didn't exact swift revenge on those scum I'll never know. Edited by Mechanic_X

Saw some of that... Had to eventually turn it off (young kids around the house), and I was hoping to get back to it sometime.

I have empathy for his own self perception. He was there. No one else was and lived through it... and he didn't have to say a word about his (self-proclaimed) failures in that firefight,... but he did , and that is uncommon.

I have more feelings about it... but no words to match them.

No words can really describe what he's been through. I can't imagine seeing three of my brothers killed like that and being the only survivor. I truly feel sorry for the grief and the feelings he is burdoned with on a daily basis. He may think he was a coward, but he is one of my heroes.

I got to see the entire interview on 60 minutes and I have no doubt that he is a very brave and totally honest man and to even admit that he laid his rifle down to cover his ears so he would not hear one of his brothers dying. That does not at all make him a coward in my opinion. It makes him  human and not just a killing machine but a human with feelings. I have the utmost respect for him and he is a hero as much as any soldier in our military and he even admitted that the movie may have been based on his book but it is only a Hollywood movie. I will be sure and go see it and see how it does compare to what his interview was about................jmho

I read his book about his experience that day it and was truely incredible. Credics claimed much of his story was exaggerated but I never heard if that was true or not.

Either way, he has a lot of respect in my book as do all those guys who fought that day. :usa:

Saw the movie last night, at a screening. I had no frame of reference for this story but I left with a great appreciation of him, his unit and all servicemen and servicewomen who are committed to the task and do not often get to tell their story. I hope to read the book soon.
