Night stand guns caliber and capacity

Just curious how many rounds of what caliber before you would need to reload or reach for another gun.
I am trying to get comfortable using a M&P Shield for carry and then night stand duty at night.

Mine used to be a Glock 22 but has been replaced by my 19. It's my EDC too but when it goes in the nightstand at night I attach my light then take it off in the morning when I get it out. Also with it are 2 loaded g17 mags. And most nights the 870 is behind the headboard.

I tend to keep as many as the largest capacity pistol I own will hold beside the bed. Not like you have to try to conceal it.

1911 converted to .460, but will only need it if I cant get to my 870 first and will only need it until I can get to my 870, which is about 24 inches from my 1911. HD, first thing I am going for is my 12 gauge loaded with 5 rounds of PDX1 Defenders and a 6 in the buttstock shell holder.

My carry is a 23 but my nightstand gun is a 19 with a Streamlight and a 1300 Defender with 9 rounds of .00 by my headboard

Benelli M2 Tactical  with 8 rounds.  It is within arms reach.  I keep a Glock 34 available as well, but would always go for the shotgun first.

polish p64 work well as a bed room gun.  small, flat and something that you don't care about when the police keeps it forever after something goes down.

My carry guns are all semi-autos. My nightstand gun is a S&W 686 revolver. So six rounds of 357Mag before I would have to switch to other available options.

All of them. If I have to shoot someone I am obviously so scared I am going to empty every round I can into them or in their general direction.

I seriously have no less that 50 rounds loaded and ready to grab at a moments notice. And that doesn't include the various other guns around the house.

I'm not big on disclosing what I have where, but it's going to be a fight between me and my wife to see who gets to shoot a person first if they break into our house.

Having a high dollar alarm system is piece of mind. If it ever goes off ...

First I hit the megadeath button on the headboard post from my saferoom/bedroom, which of course activates the steel bars closing on all windows and doors after the perps are inside, which then opens the gates to release the hyenas which are minimally fed.

Of course if they manage to climb up onto something, the camera's on the remote Dillon mini-gun would pick up on that.

Finally after my 9/11 call to the county coroner, I'd grab my classic Model 29 6 1/2" pinned and recessed "Dirty Harry" model .44 magnum for any mop up and ask the question..."Do you feel lucky, punk?"

Whatever is closer that night.. could be high lumens flashlight, 9mm, .45 (soon to be acquired), 00, 5.56, baseball bat (soon to be acquired), or what ever the spinner on the wall selects..

Basically this.  I rotate between a few to keep in the habit of handling each of them.  Capacity varies from 11 to 16, with a spare mag for each.

To the OP.....use whatever you have trained with and hopefully therefore comfortable operating in low light.  If an auto, at least one spare mag available.  Have some sort of plan at least as a starting point.  When the SHTF, so do most plans.  Remember, in a real confrontation, most are only 25 - 50% as good as they are on their best day at the range.  Training and Practice elevate your baseline.

I maintain a 9 mm Shield with the 1 rd in the tube with a full 7 rd mag.and  next to it, a 8 rd mag with JHP. The wife has a S&W mdl 10 with 6 rds .in her night table.  We've discussed various tactics that would be applied if there ever came a time with intruders attempting to or have entered the home at night. I'm not that brave to attempt going down to the lower level to find the bad guy. The advantage is on their side. We feel that using the advantage of surprise is better. The bad guys would be surprised when they enter the stairway . If all goes well, they'll never reach the 2nd fl level.
