Ruger American Rifle

Looking to buy a Ruger American Rifle in .06. Any thoughts? Anyone have one? Looking to put a Redfield Revenge in 4-12/42 on it. Mainly to be used for deer hunting and some target.

I have one in 06 but I cant tell you how it shoots I haven't had time to shoot it yet!!!

I have one in 270 put a nikon 3x9x40 on it and a blackhawk bipod,I do not hunt but ive had a blast at semi long range target shooting,I think you will like one. :usa:

I have one in .308 with a Bushnell 14x on it.  I love the thing.

I have one in 30.06 and love the bolt handle. It doesn't come too close to the scope.
If they made a .223 I would buy it.

I picked up one in 7mm-08 for my 9yr old son as his first deer rifle.  It kind of "is what it is" -  Its an inexpensive mass produced rifle.  Mine is shooting decent groups but as long as it stays within 2" MOA then I'm fine.  The stock is VERY flimsy and I took mine off and dremeled a bit to float it a bit better and the bolt is very rough (I have a Sako so I'm very spoiled).  I also painted the stock and have been pretty happy with it; especially considering the low cost.  My son took his first deer with it on Thanksgiving afternoon!

For those interested, the 140gr reduced recoil rounds by Hornady are the ticket.  It did a number on a big doe at 100 yards and I'm probably going to hunt with this setup the rest of the season.  It's very light and easy to pack with minimal recoil.

I bought the .223 Ruger American, and we were shooting 14 x 14 inch targets out to 400 yards with ease. We were also hitting 500 and 600 yard targets, also 14 x 14", but not as easily. We were shooting in Wyoming at the Jackson Hole Gun Club, and using plain Remington ammo, nothing
special. I think I paid $360 for it and we were using a Nikon 3-9 x 40 scope (not included in price). I recommend this rifle for casual
shooters, and maybe even serious shooters.

I wish the gun companies would start putting front sights, or at least bases on the barrels of these new "bargain" rifles.  You could install a good rear aperture sight in the scope mounting holes and have a heck of a bulletproof "survival" type truck gun.

Yeah but half the people that buy those rifles dont know how to shoot worth a dang without a scope.

Therein lies the problem.  100 bucks will barely buy an adequate set of rings for a scope, let alone a scope.  But 100 bucks will get you an excellent aperture sight and some practice ammo.

Exactly, though I don't want as a survival gun.  I just like a rifle with ion sights.  A rifle seems incomplete with our them.

I have a American in 270. I had to send it back for a bad sticky bolt issue. I just posted info on that today. Just be sure to purchase it from a shop that actually gives a crap about it's customers.
