Watch the fools texting and driving

I went fishing yesterday about 11 am or so and was in the middle lane of 153 going about 45. As I went through the traffic light into the walmart, which was green, an SUV approached on my left with the back seat filled with shopping bags. The woman driving was looking down texting on her phone at about 50 mph. I saw the next light turn red (about 150 yards down the road) and started slowing down hoping I wouldn't have to stop while pulling the boat. I saw 2 vehicles, a car and a truck, pull out and turn left towards Ms. Textndrive and myself with the last vehicle, the truck, clearing our path about 20 yards or so in front of us. Ms. Textndrive never looked up, did not see either vehicle and drove right through the red traffic light without so much as touching her brakes or slowing at all. A man in a car stopped at the same light but in the opposite lane sounded his horn and was waving at her as she drove blindly through, head down, and texting her little foolish heart out. Lucky gal is all I can say.

Be careful out there, I know they are there all the time, but I think the holidays give them much more to talk...um..text about.

Saw a woman I assume was texting and driving end up with a bloody nose over the weekend. :) Her brand new cadillac apparently magically stopped for her to avoid a near collision with a dodge ram whose rear end she was following too close, and not being buckled or paying much attention she ended up slamming her face into the steering wheel when the car stopped abruptly from around 30 mph.

While I'm a big car guy and as such generally hate most driver aids this may very well teach some of these idiots(at least the ones who can afford new luxury cars) to pay attention while driving. :woohoo:

If I survive a crash from a text-n-driver I will own them in court!

Exactly! I'm not sue-happy, but if I get an injury from someone's intentional stupidity I'm gonna make sure they never make another dime without paying some of it to me.

Of course, if one of my kids get hurt it will be a different case entirely.

I like to honk my horn at them, they usually hit the brakes all wide-eyed.

(also like to turn up talk radio real loud (or JB) when some thug at a gas station or stop light thinks everyone wants to hear his thumping-crap-rap music.)

Here is what I can tell you in my experience as a traffic investigator. Those that are responsible drive responsible. Those that drive crazy, drive drunk, text and drive are the ones who are bankrupt, unemployed, and own nothing you can take. Not to mention they drive without insurance.

True: however, when I was a LEO a lawyer who made his living out of representing LEO's in civil suits said that you should always pursue a judgment against someone regardless of their financial situation. You never know when they'll hit the lottery, inherit a fortune, or life in general will be financially kind to them.
