A Lesson To Be Learned...

I know we go through this every year now, but the videos from today have a lesson in them.

Great scott.  What a reminder that we (all of us) are just barely removed from wild animals.  It takes so little provocation for our "Lizard Brain" (primitive region) to take over higher reasoning.  All of our academic learning... our centuries of philosophy and science... all fall away instantly when we lose to our primitive brain.

In the videos linked, all of the comotion is over "getting a deal".  This is not for food, water, medical care, health, or shelter, ... no one's life is (or was to begin with) in danger.   **note - I can clearly see smaller kids in some of the fray! - what adult in their right mind does anything but try to protect kids in those kinds of scenarios!!??

If being around to care for/protect your kids is important, then being "pre-pared" for a natural/social disaster is important.  Everytime I feel a little crazy for thinking about reasonable preparations, I will remember these scenes.

Being prepared is not crazy.  Getting into an angry ruckus with people over frivolous material goods is crazy; I don't want to be anywhere near a crowd when the "stuff" everyone is clammouring for is actually a matter of life and death.

OK. Gonna be pessimistic.  Anyone remember Rome?

Walmart beginning to look like Circus Maximus.

Bread and circus for the masses.

I want to find it hard to believe that adults would choose to act this way but unfortunately it isn't.. Pretty sad and I can only hope that when some of these idiots get home and see videos like this they will think to themselves "WOW I was really acting like that" but i'm not counting on it.

Well, I look at this in several different levels. Yea people are really crazy about these Black Friday deals which to me is shows how some people can be so stupid. They will line up to save 10 or 15 bucks on an item which I guess that much savings might be important to some folks. Now with that said I don't blame the people half as much as I blame the Merchants or Store fro creating these situations. They have become the orchestra-tor's of all this craziness more than the people. They will only order a small quantity of a very popular item and advertise it for Black Friday to suck people to their stores in huge numbers. I think when folks start getting killed over these tactics Black Friday will become a thing of the past. I have found that if they advertise something I want I will wait a week after Christmas when all the stores restock and go buy the item and pay the extra few bucks and get it. All the stores for the most part beginning the middle of the week following Thanksgiving will already begin restocking those same items at the normal prices also. They may already have them in the back of the store ware house ready for restocking the following week but will only put out a limited amount for Black Friday for the suckers that want to save 10 bucks......................jmho

Didn't hear of anyone getting trampled to death.

Heard on the radio 15 minutes ago, someone trampled to death in a Long Island store and some shoppers tazing other shoppers in a couple of different places. .

WTF? Are TV's and Toasters for $5 THAT important?

"Wal-Mart worker died early Friday after an "out-of-control" mob of frenzied shoppers smashed through the Long Island store's front doors and trampled him, police said.

The Black Friday stampede plunged the Valley Stream outlet into chaos, knocking several employees to the ground and sending others scurrying atop vending machines to avoid the horde.

When the madness ended, 34-year-old Jdimytai Damour was dead and four shoppers, including a woman eight months pregnant, were injured."

The stampede caught on camera. Insanity.

I understand where you're coming from, but nobody is forced to go to these sales. Black Friday is an important shopping day for many businesses. Wal Mart may not be among them but you can rest assured if it wasn't happening there it would happen elsewhere. People are clearly the problem, not businesses.
