Watched the Red Dawn remake tonight

ok... so I'm a little behind the current movie releases.   :)

 

- a lot of unrealistic junk, but still...

 

...when the stars and stripes popped out in that last scene I almost balled like a baby.  - it caught me off guard.

 

The turkey must've made me emotional.

While the original is a great piece of movie history I think they did a great job with this remake. Maybe it's because this version is of my generation, I'm 25 years old.

Just got threw the second an I think it ranks up there with the first, Just a different take on the same story.

 

 

Its on netflix streaming now by the way.

The original cut of this remake had a more plausible idea of the Chinese being the invaders but the reigning party in China wasn't exactly fond of the idea and raised their concerns with Hollywood and they being the spineless cowards they are took it back to editing to make it where Kim Jong and NK were the enemy.

I was hesitant to watch it when I saw it on Netflix. Didn't want to ruin my childhood ;) That being said I enjoyed it for what it was. I though in some ways it was better than the original, but it still wasn't the original.

If you've can find it streaming you should check out "Tomorrow when the war began". It's kind of an Australian version of red dawn that was done in 2010 and IMHO has much better story and acting. Edited November 29, 2013 by viscero

I thought the same thing, it's an interesting flick to say the least and a bit more realistic, well, as realistic as you can get I suppose. The video game "Homefront" used an interesting concept of China and NK joining forces and pretty much steam rolling all of South East Asia into one new Massive alliance, interesting concept but poor delivery.

Didn't mind the remake, enjoyed it for what it was. But that kid that played Matt (Charlie Sheen's role) I just wanted to punch in the face. Don't know what it was, jist do not like him.

Second one was ok but I liked the first one better. But that is the one I grew up with so I understand the younger guys liking the new one better.

I just caught it on Netflix, had they named it something else it would have been better IMO. It was halfway decent.

 

I didn't buy the chemistry between the two brothers, it was nothing like the Jed/Matty of the first film.

 

I think someone said it earlier about seeing the flag at the end, I teared up a bit.

China mentioned they would not let it lease in their country. Since china has become a huge money maker for the studios/producers, they changed it to North Korea. That said, the original ultimately was better, not because of acting, or story (though both are likely a big part), but because the premise was more plausible at the time. The original came out at a time when the Iron wall was till up and Russia was still a black hole in our collective knowledge. Because we didn't understand what Russia could, or could not do, the idea of a Russia backed Cuba invading on one side of the country seemed acceptable and somewhat scary for us. Today, we understand very well what the other countries are capable of, and w As of now, no country, regardless of backing, could pull off an invasion of the USA. NK is a more likely adversary at this time. However, I don't believe that NK actually has anything like the military capacity do do anything useful. They have a lot of bodies they can put on the ground but they can't even keep the lights on. There was some analysis revealed a while back that many/most of the missiles in their parades are just props. Believe it people, unfettered capitalism leads to strong, capable economies. That is why what BHO is up to at the moment is so scary.
