Just bought a Colt Competition Expert. Questions

I just bought [url="http://grabagun.com/ccg-expert-16-s-s-5-56-1-30rd.html"]http://grabagun.com/ccg-expert-16-s-s-5-56-1-30rd.html[/url] It was a bit of an impulse buy, but I told myself that if I found one of these or a RRA ATH go on sale for under 1100 I would buy once, cry once, and sell off something else to help make up the difference. So, that said, I noticed that these are guaranteed 1 MOA. If anybody here owns one, what should I realistically expect, and with what kinds of ammo did you use to get that? I would also like to know, from those that hand load, what bullet specs they have had the most success with? EDIT: fixed the link.  Nice rifle OP! If you're loading your own ammo the Hornady Amax and Vmax have been very accurate bullets and very reasonably priced IMO. There are many bullets that are great such as the Nosler ballistic tips and Sierras Match Kings. As far an accurate factory round goes, the BlackHills 77gr load is really nice shooting and is loaded with a Sierra Match King bullet. The Outpost Armory is close by me and they have a pile of different .223 factory ammo choices ranging from small varmit to match target loads to hunting etc...

What twist is your barrel?  That will allow you to determine which bullet weight should work best.

test the ammo and gun apart from yourself.  That is, lock the gun down in a rest and test it, see how it groups.  Once you find the ammo it likes (making your own is probably best) to get the tight groups, then you can see what it will do with a human holding it etc.  I would say try it at 100 and 200 yards. 

 

 

You could always contact colt and ask them what ammo they use for their test targets.   They may have a recipe or something.

Again, Congratulations on a very nice purchase. I have a 6920 Magpul edidtion and have been quite happy with it. I'd expect much better from this.

What twist is your barrel? That will allow you to determine which bullet weight should work best.

1:8 twist, .223 wylde chamber, stainless steel. I have an upper with, what I am told is a lothar walther non-chrome lined barrel, also 1:8 twist that really likes 68 and 69gr OTM ammo with 25gr BL-(c)2 set to 2.255 oal. However, I am with its different chamber (5.56) I am hoping somebody might have some insite.

Isn't that the comp gun that they licensed the name COLT for? COLT Firearms doesn't actually make the gun. Looks like a damn fine game gun looking at the specs. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I'm in a similar boat. How do you measure broadside of barn in MOA?
