Interesting Cell Phone crossover

I know there are some Wireless guru's here, someone explain this one.

Wife calls from her cell to mine.

My phone rings, I answer it, no one there.

I call the wife back, she answers on second call.

When she called me my phone rings, but a woman on the other end picks it up.

Wife asks "Who's this?", woman asks "Who's this". Wife responds with "This is _____"

Woman hangs up.

Not to be putting on the tin foil hat but I have been carrying cell phones for 15 years and never had that happen. Bleedover yes, but for someone to actually pick up the phone, answer it, and talk to the person on the other end (My wife in this case) has never happened.

What could have been the cause of that. I wont say that sounds more like an intercept than bleedover, just wont say it.

How does that happen? I have asked numerous people today on that and no one has ever had that happen.

More likely to be a switching error at the Switch. Rare, but it happens. Most likely to happen if the call is being made as either the caller or receiver is in a handoff between cell sites...not getting too deep into it but although it happens it's very rare now.

There is also an app for iPhones that will let you call two different lines at the same time from a third line. The two people you call each think the other called them. You are able to listen in unnoticed.

Better kick your GF out before the wife gets home :)

lol. OK, so no biggie then. I did the checks for spy(ing) ware. Of course you cant see all of it, but the ones I had questioned are deleted. No biggie on that either since I am not using them anyway.

And yea Wiljo, hadnt heard of it happening before, friends, family never heard of it happening, so it must be pretty rare.

I work in the industry, when I say rare it's roughly 1 in 17.5 million connections! Granted as much as people use their phones it can and will happen, but generally you will only hear from a friend of a friend that knows someone it happened to...

Nothing like the first analog cordless phones though that worked well as low power CB's and picked up everything within an 8th mile!
