I'm starting to hunt on lower hatchie nwr and I'm hunting on the ground and I'm planning on getting a stand or a ground blind for nexted year. with it being a nwr i can't leave one up so how would a climbing stand be I've looked at some made out of aluminium that weighted 26 pounds and my only problem how hard would it be to carry that into the woods with me. I've also looked at a couple ground blinds and they weight 18 pounds and i thought by the time i have the blind something to sit on and everything i take it would be about the same. Any help thanks Edited by jrbaker90

I'm sure you know this already but just in case, my Summit stand and nost others have backpack straps built in. When I carry my summit into the woods I keep the shoulder straps fairly tight because if you do this it keeps the stand up higher on your back. I can walk through fairly tall briers and brush with out it dragging behind he and spending a bit of time at home trying it out adjusted different ways on your back, operating the cables to find the quietest way to hook up to a tree as well as learning to climb it before you get out in the woods will give you a good start. I'm sure there are others out there that are just as good but i've been really happy with my Summit Viper that is on it's 13th or 14th year of service for me. Be mindful though, if I remember correctly they made a Viper years before mine that look very similar but were made of steel rather than aluminum. I doubt that you'll see many of the steel models out there but thought i'd mention it since they are substantially heavier.

Sure it would.. They are pretty simple so as long as there aren't broken welds, torn straps or missing parts you should be good. While I wouldn't be scared of a used one I would want it to be in good shape and carry a decent discount but I'm sure there are some out there for sale.

Summits are great...I have one.  But I also have an Ole Man Treestand.  Those are very easy and lightweight and also a lot cheaper than the Summit.  So keep an eye out for one of those as well.  They are the quietest of all the climbing stands I have.

I've never used an Ole Man stand, are they as comfortable as the advertisements let on?
