TWRA Smartphone APP

This will be really useful when you can check in your deer and other big game.  The mobile web site is ok but check in needs to be done on an app.

Nevermind.  Looks like you can report you harvest info with the app.

yeah thats the true value in the app. Go to hunting, and "Harvest Reporting".

Used the app to check in a big doe Saturday afternoon. Have your TWRA# handy and it is really easy to use. It will populate your harvest log for you and text you your transaction log number to provide to the processor!

I've used it twice so far this season. Doe and a 10 point muzzleloading. The nearest store/checkin station closed this summer. Sure does make it a lot more handy just to do it on the phone. I'm with Slappy, wished it saved the TWRA number also.

the app was just released for the iphone very recent, they have had a site to ck in deer but the new app has a lot more stuff on it plus you get a email confirming deer was cked in, Have you received email with confirmation # on it ?

One of the fields you populate is your Phone# and email address. I did receive a txt msg confirmation within 5 seconds with my harvest transaction number (I think that is the correct terminology)...this is the number that is provided to the processor.

Yeah within minutes after checking my doe in using it, i had a confirmation email. Its good to see one of these kinda things work properly for a change. Usually these kind of things never work worth a crap

This is what I'm wondering...

Say I'm hunting some rough terrain and kill a good sized deer.  To the best of my knowledge it would be legal to check the deer with the app then quarter it out and pack it out.  Anyone see any reason this isn't legal?

I'd say that should be legal. However, I'd pack the meat before the head, just to remove any doubt about wasting the meat.

I can't see any reason it wouldn't work like that. Honestly unless your taking it to a TWRA officer manned check in, I doubt you would get any flack. As long as you could prove the sex of the deer and had the appropriate license.

Of course I've cut one in half before to drag it out because it was too heavy and steep. No one said anything about that.

Once it's checked in it should be legal to process however you like. The key will be having cell service.

The area that I'm hunting has zero, I'll have to hike out drive 15 miles down the road, check it, then go hike it back out.  I don't think this will be a solo hunt, pretty sure I couldn't manage that by myself.
