Pistol barrel question?

Recommended Posts

A few years ago I read in the TWRA regulations that a pistol had to have a certain length barrel to legally hunt big game in Tennessee. Does anyone know if that law still exists? I can't find it anywhere. A link would be great as well.

Thanks

I could only find a restriction on caliber, nothing on barrel length. I was thinking that at one time there was but I couldn't find any. Somebody smarter and wiser will be along shortly. Now I"m curious also.

Where did you find a caliber restriction? I saw a 36 caliber minimum for muzzleloaders for big game, and a 25 caliber maximum for rimfires and airguns for small game.

What Greg said. I can't find it, anymore, either but it used to be 4".

Centerfire is all I've seen, as far as, big game go but no caliber restriction. Can't use below .22 centerfire on a rifle, anyway, sooooo.......

No length res

They removed the barrel length and caliber as far as I know. I think this happened at the same time they removed the .24cal min for deer rifles. Now it's just center fire rifles and handguns.

Correct. About two years ago.

Someone pointed them to ballistics tables for 2" Magnum handguns (ala Super Red Hawk Alaskan used in other states for deadly game).

LOL! Hell, one of the biggest Polar bears ever shot was killed with a head shot from a .22 magnum and lucky for his buddy, too, since he was fixin' to be bear supper. It's all 'bout shot placement. Right......? I'll let y'all test that theory, though. :squint:

I though they had removed the caliber restriction now allowing all center fire calibers but did not know they had removed the pistol barrel length restrictions as well. I swear I've looked that up 8 or 10 times over the last couple years trying to find it again.

I want reimbursement for my time in the form of a lifetime sportsman license.

I mean it is only $200 if I'm under 3. OH if only I knew then what I know now. It is a great gift for your kids and grand kids though.
