Help me please. I just purchased my first AK 47 and I'm painfully itching to shoot it. I live in Knox county and I shoot my handguns on my property but I want a better place to shoot my new rifle. I just want to shoot my rifle on occasion and enjoy it. Any indoor ranges or outdoor ranges that allow rifles. Where can I shoot?  Thanks in advance.

Norris is/was $30 a year if I remember correctly. It renews every June so if you join up now, you only get 6 months but it is pretty nice. Contact the Norris police department for information.

$40 now. June 30-June 30.

+1 on ORSA. I've been a member there for 3 years. Great ranges. Even got a 1000 yd. range. Skeet, trap, action pistol, indoor rimfire and pistol range. Hell of a complex for $120 a year.

Welcome Gothic. :hat:

I live in West Knoxville and have been a member at ORSA since I arrived here in '06.

It's a great facility with a lot of good folks, especially at the matches.

I'll post some links below.

A buddy and I were shooting at Norris this past Wednesday It's another great option.

The permits for Norris are handled by the Norris PD, in beautiful downtown Norris.

As mentioned it's only $40.00 June to June, or $20.00 for a single day...kinda of a no brainer really.

The Norris PD are some good folks A bud of mine works there. Very gun friendly from my experiences.

Each place has it's pluses and minuses...but for a total of $160.00 per year combined? It's hard to beat short of a private range.

I'll be "baby sitting" the indoor range at ORSA this afternoon. Unfortunately I have to stay in the indoor range after I open the doors.

But if you know a member that can escort you in, you are welcome to come shoot some handgun with us. The rifle range will be open after noon..but until you are a member, you'll need to be someone's guest.

You can attend the matches without membership. Hope you'll check them out.

I love ORSA and am a member, but, frankly, it wouldn't be the best place if you mainly want to blast away with an AK. Your options are pretty much limited to the 200 yard bench rest range, and you are only allowed to shoot paper targets fixed at the 50, 100, and 200 yard stands (no plinking). There was talk of building a multipurpose rifle range similar to the plinking range, but I haven't heard anything about that for months.

A 3-gun match would be a fun place for you to run your AK, but you don't have to be a member for that.

Gunny's in Maryville has a couple indoor lanes where you can shoot rifles. I think Farnsworth's in vonore does as well. Anyone know if the new range at Frontier allows rifles?

Yeah, I live east of Knoxville. I can go to the bubbling springs rifle range but it is close to the N.C. carolina line . It is only $2 per day. Very remote. Sometimes you have the range to yourself and sometimes you are fu#%ed. Anyway , I have been there a few times but I wish something was closer to the east side of K-town. Started thinking about opening one until I found out what insurance cost. If anyone knows where I could shoot close to Morristown or Jefferson City puulueeeaaaasssseee!!! let me know. I would be happy to pay a fee if I didnt have to go to North Carolina or drive through K-Town traffic. Thanks Rick.

John Sevier hunter education center off rifle range road is a pretty nice facility.

If you only shoot sitting down, at 100 yards max, only paper targets, never shoot faster than one shot every 3 seconds, and its limited operating hours happen to accommodate your schedule.

OP, if you want you can be my guest at the Moose Lodge. It is off of Callahan drive. If you like it I will sponsor you. Membership is $75 a year with a $20 application fee for new members. It is a great range if you like shooting with little, or no, other shooters around.

It has a rifle and pistol range. The rifle range is a concrete building that is covered. It has target stands at 50, 75 and 100 yards. You can shoot to about 135 yards. The pistol range is a car port and is about 25 yards if I remember right. They have a porta potty at the ranges and an actual bathroom at the main building.

The Moose Lodge also has a bar, a pool and a putting range. They have weekly dinners for members as well as special functions throughout the year like motorcycle rides, banquets and other things.

Is this a membership to the club or just the rifle/gun ranges?

I am a Moose member, I hold a membership from another state, I've been looking transfer my membership to a local lodge. I would interested in joining your lodge since I just moved to Powell. Will I need  a sponsor, or can I just show up and do some paper work ? Do you have a Mooseriders group there also?  I'm also member of ORSA......Does anyone know of a range where you can run Full Auto rifles ? I know it's a NO-NO  at ORSA

They do rides throughout the year so I assume they have a riders group.

I am unsure about the transfer process. The big question is if there is a $20 application fee. The $75 member dues probably have to be paid.

I know of no public range that allows full auto fire. John Sevier range, Norris and Moose do not. There was a range in Sneedville that allowed it but I have no clue if it is still open. It was a range and go cart track. It was a nice range because it allowed you to shoot to 550 yards and the layout was nearly perfect. I quit going when the owner's 13 year old daughter had a diva moment and lied to her father.
