So talk to me about walnut oil

A friend just gave me a 40 lb bag of American walnut's still in their husks. He provided hints on

breaking them open by driving over them with my truck. He also mentioned I should wear gloves

because the walnut oil will stain your hands. He said latex gloves won't cut it.

While still trying to figure out how I can dry them (?) another friend at work who was from Texas told me

his parents used to gather them up and sell them to a local market. The folks buying them wanted them for

their oil to die things with.

My question is what. Wood stain? Anyone ever use walnut oil right out of the husks as some sort of die?

Thanks

Lp

Yes, I died my hands when  I was a boy getting them ready to eat. It has to wear off your hands. Don't know about anything else.

American walnuts ... different from black walnut so common here in TN?  I think it an old dye sometimes used for clothing ... similar to the "butternut" dye.

For our black walnuts, we soak the green nuts in vodka for several weeks, shaking occasionally, then filter through cheesecloth for black walnut tincture. Great stuff that's anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic ... use topically or internally - livestock & us humans too.

Hmmmm ... anti-parasitic ... maybe I should send some to Corker & Alexander.
