Meet and Greet

Hello all,

I thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Mike, I'm in my early 30's and am a Federal LEO employed by the DoD.

I've owned several firearms throughout my life and my most recent acquisitions are an HK P30 and Beretta px4 storm subcompact.

I'm a little weird in the sense that I'm extremely particularly regarding my weapons so I have never actually purchased a used firearm (I'm sure I will at some point, it's just every time I hold a previously owned weapon I can't help but think how I would have taken different care of it and scrutinize every minor little flaw. Then inevitably I talk myself out of purchasing it). I just haven't came across a good quality pre-owned weapon at the right price yet.

I was born and raised in southern middle TN, joined the military at age 24 and obviously departed the area. I've spent some time down range as well as completed assignments overseas.

I'm now back as life has returned me to my home state!

This is the first firearms forum I've joined where you must be a paying member to post and respond to classified ads. I must admit I was a little caught off guard by that.

Now that I've made my membership official, I look forward to the time I will spend here at the forums and also getting to know you all. Maybe in time I'll fork over the money to become a benefactor. Haha.

Thanks for having me!

Welcome Mike. Regarding the paid membership, if you stick around long enough you'll see that it's that fact that makes the classified section so successful. If you go to the iTrade ratings, you'll notice that almost all transactions have positive ratings. If the classifieds were free, I guarantee you there would be a bunch more negative ratings showing up. Payment ensures quality.

Welcome Mike. Since you're so particular about your firearms, beware, you're going to catch the C & R weapons bug at some point. Then it's old guns, surplus ammo and cleaning cosmoline. It's just the way things work.

Welcome to TGO, Mike. If you hang around long enough, you'll likely come to realize the benefit of a Benefactor membership. Unlike other local classified websites, TGO offers a feedback system, much like eBay. This is very helpful in keeping members honest, allowing you to buy, sell and trade with some peace of mind.

Generally speaking, TGO is a pretty close community. For many of us, TGO is a home away from home. Unlike some of the "national" forums, many of us actually know each other, hang out together, help each other, and act much like any other sometimes dysfunctional family.

We've had some of the TGO Authorized Vendors offer perks to Benefactors, often making the membership well worth while. On top of that, and probably most importantly, the minimal (especially if you bite the bullet for the one-time Lifetime Benefactor Membership) fee allows the site owner to keep TGO up and running as well as he does. While some members may not want to admit it, I'm pretty sure the suicide rate in Tennessee would skyrocket if TGO were to ever be shut down for good.

As a welcome to TGO, a Thank You for your service, and an early Christmas present, I will pay for your very first Benefactor membership. I'm confident you'll renew.

The reason why we require people to pay is it does several things. First, a person intent on scamming generally will not spend money to do so. Yes, there are some that have (not here) but it is a rarity. Second, it gives us a tie to the individual that LE can use if someone is in fact ripped off. And finally, those who pay to become benefactors are generally a little more well mannered than those that are not. The classified section here is the best I have ever seen on any board.

The way the members treat each other is also pretty amazing, especially when you consider we are a board made up of mostly men. We all have a differing opinion but we respect each other's opinions. And finally, the members here are what makes the board so great.

Welcome aboard and we welcome your opinions.

I purchased a voucher good for a 6-month Benefactor membership. I don't know your email address, so I chose the Print option. I am assuming you should have received an email or something, informing you how to redeem it. If you have any issues, let me know.

That's freakin awesome TDR!  Hat is off to you sir!

Welcome back home to TN and welcome to TGO! Thanks for your service and sacrifice for our country.

Although I am not a benefactor and I am still a newcomer myself I have observed that the classifieds are much better here than other sites. Having to invest something to post in the classifieds cuts down on scams and nonsense for sure.

Welcome home and welcome to a great gun board! I was skeptical about paying for any forum but once I saw how peaceful, trustworthy and fun this one is,it was hard not to become a benefactor. This site runs well performance wise, and has a great membership w good unit comraderie.
